What to do - cats invading home

Shut the window. Or get screens. Before I had (to have) cats of my own I drilled new holes in the latches to make the gap too small for a cat to come through.

Fair enough but how?

Leaving meat out all day with open windows is called an invitation. Why not put the meat in a cold oven, or in the microwave, to thaw?

"How" is the key here, but as I say the owners should not just accept that others should put up with this.

I usually leave meat to thaw in the microwave or oven (not powered), so haven't yet had an incident with food, and they have been coming in the house without food to attract them.

I think the best for now would be to put a notice in the mail boxes and place the burden on the owners, and if it doesn't stop I believe I'm well within my rights to safely drop them off at the SPCA.

Just remember, those neighbours you are pissing off today could be the same ones you're hoping might call Atlas or ADT next time they see a human sniffing around your house.

Who's pissing who off here - I'm pissed off that someone else' pets are making a pest of themselves in my home.

I would look out for them in that regard, but think it's a bit much to put up with this just in the hopes that I can rely on them for that type of neighborly good will.

I'd look out for their properties regardless.

You really dont understand cats do you?

Your best (only?) hope is if there are rules about cats in your complex. Are there?

Alternatively make a plan to keep them from entering your house. :o

Get one of those supersoakers and fill it with water and a bit of citronella, spray any cats that come inside. Those are someone's petsl you don't want to harm them or send them to the SPCA where they will probably be put down.

As you stay in a complex, are there are rules w.r.t. pets?

I have heard that there's a few complexes in PE that have rules against keeping cats for this very reason - you cannot confine them to your own property.

Our complex doesn't have this rule, but hopefully the owners will man up to their obligations to ensure that their pets don't pester others.

The only thing a cat owner can do to realistically prevent their cat from entering your house is to shut your windows for you.

Cats roam. It is their very nature to do so.

BTW - I dont even like cats but I do understand this.

I fully understand the nature of cats, and this is what makes them unsuitable pets in this enviroment.
I'm most certainly not a cat hater, but will make an attempt to get the complex rules addressed in this regard.

Install a cat door, set it to only open inwards, close windows etc, go to work, come back to poor kitty trapped, chuck it in the shower for a bit, let it out. Doubt it will come back soon.

Spraying citronella oil at strategic places help. Cats absolutely hate that stuff.

+1 on this

You can also get "Get off my garden" which has the same scent as citronella, which you can spread around your garden to keep them away. Thats what I do.

He doesn't want to close his windows. If he did the cats would probably find somewhere else to play and this wouldn't be an issue.

I also think it highly unlikely he, or anyone else for that matter, would want to hack a huge hole in his door.

You can get a trapping cage from your SPCA together with instructions on how to set it up etc. You then capture kitty and take him to the SPCA IN THE CAGE! Easy!

To those advocating trapping the cat do they understand that the cat is just going to be right back there as soon as the owner collects it?

If you follow this be prepared for some hectic scratches

citronella Oil is the best idea
