So long story short adsl and voice line went down a month ago (a few hours after being upgraded to a 4meg line). Daily calls and escalations (even tried telkomza on the forums) have yet to even get a technician assigned to fix the line.

So wait it out or commit to a lte contract is my dilema... to add to the problem open serve had recently installed a fibre box thing right outside my house, but waiting for it to go live (was meant to be in Jan, but who knows).

If I could get a cheap lte modem (does not need WiFi) to use with telkom and just go month to month while I wait it out, that would be perfect, though I can't figure out what's the cheapest lte modem that would work ...

Any advice for a frustrated telkom customer?

Similar situation as you with no adsl.

Bought a LTE Huawei B315 router off Gumtree and got a prepaid LTE SIM from Telkom shop.

No contracts, just buy data when I need it. Use the 10+10 Gb for day to day stuff and the 500Gb for after hours stuff.

I use less than 10Gb per month for the day to day so with my 500Gb bolt-on my cost per month is R 300.00

Think that's sort of the way to go!

A sort of related question I can't seem to get the answer to....

Does anyone know if the 500gig bolt on can be used with the smartbroadband uncapped wireless deal (the 24 month contract one)?
