Hi all,

I allowed my telkom 4mbps adsl account to go heavily into arrears and eventually into cancellation by telkom (which i only found out today). I was overseas from about February though September and never bothered to check the account. fair enough, my fault. :(

When i returned home in october my adsl was obviously suspended from service. i checked my telkom online bill (at work because home internet was off) and it said I owe X amount and assuming that it was an outstanding amount to get the service back up and running, I paid the full amount.

3 weeks had gone by and the line had not been re-connected. I called the ADSL call centre, they said problem is with accounts > phone accounts > Accounts tell me line was cancelled because of 3 months arrears. cool, i wanna fix it what must i pay?

"No" says the voice on the telephone, "You must re-apply for the service which includes all the fees of a new installation plus a R700-00 security deposit because of my bad telkom record.

I politely told them to go **** themselves because my line was already there I just needed it to be reactivated. They proceeded to tell me a bunch of cr@p about the cables being pulled out of the ground already and blah blah blah which I know is a load of bull.

So I now sit with no internet access and I refuse to continue my business with telkom.

Question - Which ISP (if any) can assist me in getting another line without being penalized by telkom? I am not keen on wireless because of reliability and price so cable is the way I want to go.

And you expect them to just reactivate it at the click of your thumb? Haha sorry but this is the funniest thing i've seen in a while. I'm not a Telkom fan in general but it makes logical sense to me that if you're going to not pay your bill for several months, that your service will obviously be crap.

Uhhhm lol, i'm actually surprised you haven't got some kind of criminal record or letters/a case regarding non payment or something, but anyway lol seems its easy to get away with this sort of stuff in SA. Maybe I should try too.

Duh!

Apart from stating the obvious, you will notice that I did say I was to blame for the whole mess, the point I was trying to make was perhaps a little over your head.

Sure I screwed up and I admitted that, and paid my outstanding bills on the spot to settle the dispute. When I want to re-apply they give me the army approach (R700-00 "security deposit", 6 -12 weeks waiting period again, new installation fee R400-00 again) I am sorry dude, but thats wrong...

What I was trying to bring to the forums attention was the manner in which these guys conduct their business, its like the friggin' sopranos!

A good friend of mine had a similar issue with MTN where his account had already been handed over to legal house, but by paying what he owed and admitting guilt, they still treat him like a king!

I find it weird how telkom take 6 - 12 weeks to install your DSL but just 1 week pull your "line out of the ground"(apparently) for an outstanding bill.

Like I said, its Soprano's...Not only do you owe them, but don't pay up and they break your knees...capish!

Hope this is not too offensive for the forum.

peace.
