Hey guys , Im 21 , I have about 20 grand lying around which I want to start an investment/savings with and would like opinions of more experienced investors.

I want an account that I can put this money in, still be able to put money in every month but I want it to be flexible , so 500 this month 2000 the next 1000 after that etc.

Any input will be appreciated

Hi there.

There are lots of good options out there and many will probably recommend some sort of tracker fund (e.g. SATRIX 40), most likely in a tax free savings account. They are pretty flexible, and low maintenance. However, given that at the moment the markets look quite shaky you need to make sure that your investment time horizons are long enough. If you want to invest the 20k and then take it out in 1-2years then it probably is not the best idea to put it in the market at all. However, if you are saving for your retirement then absolutely a tracker fund or something akin could be a great choice.

I am not a qualified advisor, so this is only my opinion. If you do want to consult a professional you could check out www.objectivemoney.co.za

Good luck!

Thanks for the input.

My goal is to emigrate in about 5/6 years , so it would be for that term +-

Just buy some expensive booze.

Savings are for sissies :p

I would have thought that is long enough for the market to go through a cycle, so an investment account as above might be worthwhile. However, there are no guarantees and I am not a qualified professional. If you are looking to emigrate you might also want to consider overseas investment. If the rand continues its decline then your investment although good in rand terms might not be worth much abroad.

Overseas investment is more complicated and carries different risks. However, it might provide more security; especially if you want to emigrate. Again a financial planner might be able to help here, alternatively you can have a look yourself at some of the potential funds on http://www.fundsdata.co.za/

This is the second time I have read a stupid remark from you today. As I told you before. Get back to your X Box thing and leave now.
You are a pure troll and should be banned.
Hopefully Admin will read this and give you a dishonourable exit.
