What to do with jewelry when emigrating

If you take it in your carry on luggage?

While I am female... I've always taken jewelry as hand luggage as you're always told not to place high value items in you hold storage luggage... I've never been asked about the jewelry.

I suppose I can do that. Chances of being stopped by customs on that side are low.

Ancalagon, if you don't mind my asking, where are you going to, is it permanent or just a trial, and what line of work are you in? If you'd rather not say, I understand.

Permanently emigrating to the UK and I am a software developer.

Actually it is zero chance. Many women take their own jewellery with them when emigrating. We did. No problem. Just declare it if asked but I have never been asked. You will be fine with R 183K worth of private jewellery or £ 10K.
