Hi there.

So i upgraded to my pc to the following

R9 280x crossfire
i7-4790k
Corsair h100i
MSI z97 gaming 5
16GB ram 1600mhz corsair ram
corsair air 540 case
2x ssd and HDD
corsair ax850w
Qnix qx2710 2560x1440 @ 96Hz

So now I'm asking what can I do with my old system. i was mainly upgrading cause i was waiting for 4790k to come and motherboard so I can crossfire with. My old specs that i have left is.

i7-3770k
Stock cooling
8GB 1333mhz ram
2x hard drives.
MSI b75-g43 gaming
cougar 750w
no graphics card.
Normal office case with about 250mm space for graphics card

So I already have an old core duo pc that i got from work to do all of my downloads, storage of series and movies and also handle my email etc etc and it works just fine no need to change that pc now.

Now I feel this pc is sort of still in very good shape what do you guys suggest i can do with it now. I don't really like selling the pc second hand before I haven't considered my options yet. I was thinking of getting a cheap graphics card like the powercolor from wootware. Something like the r9 270x or r7 260x.

So any suggestions?

Thanks

I don't know, I'm quite lean on the hardware I have around. If I'm not really using it, I'll sell it off quickly. That's a fairly beastly system to have sitting around not sure what to do with.

Why would you not want to sell it?

If you sold it off as a mid-range gaming PC, you could recoup at least half of the costs spent on the upgrade.

I also see that the RAM between the 2 systems is incompatible, otherwise you could have made your system a 24GB.

Other options:

+1 to media server
There is also the option of a local (carry-around) LAN-gaming server
Developer machine (if you program)
Bitcoin mining?

ok you say as a local carry around lan gaming pc. that sound awesome just one problem is that there's not many LAN's here. Maybe when I go to friends. Reason for not selling as not all parts belongs to me. some comes from work. You know family business so they kinda told me I can have the parts to complete the system cause for now they not going to use it. The only things that's mine is the cpu and motherboard rest is actually not mine

Can this run Bf4 on ultra with 80+FPS?

If yes I have a buyer.

What pc you talking about? if you talking about my haswell based i7-4790k pc then no. I'm not selling that...lol. Anyway that pc with just one r9 280x could do 80+fps on high settings and the last 3 settings disabled using mantle but with the second card installed i decided to run higher graphics and keep fps the same.

I'm talking about the 3770k system and I most probably not going to sell it. I'm leaning towards setting it up as racing/LAN system. Should be good enough to handle most games at 60fps+ on at least second best graphics settings with no AA turned on.

Also my brother said he will borrow the system and hook it up to the tv and then set it up as a "console killer". He's running a 55" samsung 3d smart tv so should be awesome on that. He's also into racing games or I should say he only plays racing games on his ps3 so getting him into pc gaming should be awesome. I really want to introduce him into pc gaming rather than getting a ps4.

Sell it or give it to me.

You don't really need another PC do you? Or give/sell it to some person/kid that needs it.

He can't sell it, that's what he's said above.

In that case I've always wanted to make a 'project' PC. Something like a Steambox in the living room. I'd sell the mobo and get an mITX board and find a smallish HTPC case, or if you were REALLY into the whole DIY thing, make something. Then set up SteamOS and XBMC in the living room and tweak the bijiminies out of it. Get a passive 750ti and a passive CPU cooler as well and aim for silence.

I like that idea. I'm still thinking of getting the powercolor r9 270x. It's faster than the 750ti and shouldn't be to loud. i have the perfect spot to install the current case without even seeing it. Still I like the idea. I will try out steam OS. I just feel it lacks some features having tried it with the current system with in home streaming.

The features that they need to implement:

1. an easy way to install your games on another hard drive while having steam on your primary drive like an SSD.

2. There is no media player without going to the desktop interface and installing it from there.

Well that's the only things i can think of.

Yeah well Steam OS is just an idea. It's still in beta now. But basically it's the idea of creating the perfect casual gaming/htpc setup.

Yes I understand it's still in beta. it's just that for me being unable to install the games on the mechanical drive while having the SSD for boot drive is a deal breaker for me.

So received my Powercolor r9 270x turbo duo this morning. Will install it later tonight when I get home. I must say this card is small, much smaller than most other r9 270x cards. Just hope it will perform as good as other brands but I'm sure it will. I'm also going to try overclocking the card a bit.

Steam inhome streaming works with non steam games too if you add them to your steam library. So if you want to game on your media server then that should take care of it without having to steam os the thing. I play demanding titles on my i5 Asus vivobook in bed thanks to steam streaming. Just let the monster in the other room do all the work.
