A little while back I got a new machine and monitor.

Not sure what to do with the old equipment. It was a gaming machine, so a little tired now. Plan to retain the old hard drive, as it still has data I'd like to use. The monitor is an old CRT so maybe not that great.

I am not too fussed about selling it. Would rather find a charity or NGO who could use something like this in the Joburg/West Rand area. Failing which, how do I get rid of it?

Give it to your maid or any other person you deem deserving.

In my case I have a son who games quite a bit (too much for my liking!) and some of his friends and acquaintances cannot afford gaming rigs (even an old one), so I donate all my old stuff to them.

Gave the one youngster a fully built up rig about 3 weeks ago. His reactions were appreciation enough! First PC he has ever owned... and he can LAN with it.

TBH,

Don't try giving it to a charity or NGO. my experience in that regard has never been good. they tell you it's to old, they need the latest stuff etc...
rather give it to a domestic worker or a youngster(white-black) that doesn't have one. they appreciate it more. the CRT - aslong as it works anyone fitting those discriptions will still be glad for it.

It holds value.

Need the money? Detail the specs, we evaluate it, then list it on various classifieds (MyBb, Carbonite, Gumtree, etc.).

Don't need the money? As per above, give it to someone less fortunate.

Set up as firewall or dedicated NAS server

Cash Crusaders
Donate to a non profit school or church.
Setup a file server
Give to domestic
Build yourself a Arcade Machine with it.. Mame don't need a strong PC..
Buy a Gun and do Target practice..

Interesting ideas all. I am not looking for money for it. I just don't want some to give me grief that it suddenly packed up.

It's only 3 years old, but it's tired (wee bit too much gaming :D). Will give this some thought.
