What to do with old pc?

Hi there

I'm all out of ideas. I already have a Nas/download system also running a dedicated linux firewall (untangle) at home. What else can I do with my old system.

Specs
Q6600
GTX550TI
8GB RAM
MSI p45 neo-f motherboard
Standard pc case
250GB Hard drive.

I really don't want to sell it. I work as it administrator so yes I can pretty much understand everything.

Oh before I forget I have a western digital live media player


Will not donate the system

Well its faster than my current spec.If you dont want to sell it would you maybe give it away to someone poor...someone say like me? :o
 
hahahahahaahahahh. Dude it's a pc we used in the office. So they will say no. sorry :D
 
Well we will never know if we dont ask them?and tell them I will be extremely greatfull if they were to grant me the mean machine.
 
Why not just carry on using it as a Office PC?

There really isnt much that core2quid Q6600 cant do...
 
hahaha. I can't get rid of it but want to use it for something. They replaced that pc with something else. please don't question with what. stick to the original post
 
lol not be donating it guys. I was thinking of getting a bigger cooler and use it as a LAN rig. overclock the cpu to let's say 3.4-3.6GHz to remove the bottleneck of the cpu. I can play battlefield 3 on low at 40-60FPS

But at the same time a system with those specs would be overkill for a Nas/download system, maybe stick more ram into it and set up a whole bunch of virtual web servers(create a service and sell them if its excess), or a combination of multiple servers...

But regardless of what server setup you want to use it for, I cant ever imagining you will be fully utilizing that rig(unless you have a huge amount clients)
 
Just sell it on gumtree and take a part of the money for you.
 
Load Ubuntu and Libre Office and train the secretaries to use it. The mean machine will help convince them that it is "better" than windos. Once you have the seccies convinced, you are well on your way to saving your company buckets of $$$.

I'm going to play with ubuntu and ubuntu server for a bit. see how it goes
 
You can use it for lan's if you want but the 550 is a bit low-endish compared to your main PC. Sell it on Gumtree, use the proceeds to upgrade something else.

ok so everybody is telling me to sell. maybe that's my only option. Really hope I could do something even with just the graphics card. Just another thing is my main rig weights a ton compared to this one

Why not do some Folding for the Folding@Home network? You could also just use it as a test system for Windows 8 and small software deployments.
