What upgrade is needed for Battlefield 3???

The only thing holding you back is the i3, so be sure to upgrade your CPU before considering a new or additional GPU. That being said, ask yourself what you're unable to play ATM before upgrading. So rather wait until you get BF3.
 
Me thinks I will upgrade the cpu in the interim to be honest. Metro is basically the only game that held me back. But nothing too serious. Was still playable with dx11. Damn PC component prices.........damn them to a place filled with beatles songs and usher!

haha... I was on Xbox and PS3 for about 4 years. Just moved back to PC this past 2 weeks. Yes, it's damn expensive but screw it, helluva lot more fun and I'm a big boy now, I can buy my hardware.

Anyway, back to topic. I'm actually considering going Crossfire just for this game. However, I've spent hours reading reviews and comments and it's starting to dawn on me that maybe just selling my GPU and getting something better might be a better option. Although, there's no way to tell how well this game (and future AMD drivers) will scale on this and earlier games... *sigh*... decisions, decisions...

EDIT: And no, I don't want 30fps at max settings. I want 60+ fps at max. Unfortunately I'm one of those anal PC gamers who slams right into a wall of emo when I can f-e-e-e-l the l-a-a-a-g.

Perhaps wait until it is released to make the decision. When is the release date. Seems it could be rather soonish :D. I had so many issues running crossfire when bfbc2 was released.

Eventually got rid of them and just bought a bigger single card.

Was that on the 5xxx series? As far as I know the 6 series does much better with X-fire. I've seen people getting 90% scaling. But yeah, that's usually only half the story. Rollercoaster framerates and things like micro stuttering makes me hesitant. Not to mention the fact that I'll most probably have to spend some serious $$$ on a decent 850W PSU.

What are you going to be using that you'll need a 850watt?

Hmm... good question actually. I'll probably go with 2 x 6870's if I do the X-fire thing. I'm also overclocking. Do you think a 650W PSU will be fine? I've used lots of online PSU usage calculators but the feedback I'm getting varies a lot.
I've also noticed that a lot of people doing dual GPU setups tend to go with >= 850W...

A decent 650watt will be fine for two 6870s.

I thought so, just wanted to make sure I have enough power but looking at the prices on decent PSU's I'd the thrilled if 650 is enough.
 
A decent 650W PSU would suffice for 2x HD 6870's, and it would still have lots of headroom for overclocking.

If you're going for a SLI/CrossFire setup, I would suggest that you go for a massive case, and not a medium sized case like the Coolermaster 690 II.
Like with my 690 II Advanced, I can't even fit 2x HD6970 DirectCU II's in my case, where my motherboard's PCI-E spacing is good enough for it.

I'd actually recommend that you rather go for a single GPU setup, unless you really need such a high framerate OR you want to have a SLI/CrossFire setup purely for the looks ;)
