What was your first job?

Worked in a video shop at 16 ,weekends and school holidays

I started working part time at The American Fudge Factory at the old Randburg Waterfront when I was around 16 until my final year of university. I did a lot of other odd jobs over the years as well such as waitering and tutoring before starting full time work in 2005 as a junior supply chain consultant.

At age 16 I started in the Electricity Department of the local municipality, and was a machine operator: monitoring cooling pumps/valves, taking readings on various equipment, monitoring the steam supply to the generators, etc.
This was at Swartkops power station.

My favourite fishing spot as a kid. Caught so many Springer where the station's hot water was fed back into the river.

Employment or hustle?

First job was as a techie at a small (now-defunct) store in Longbeach Mall. First hustles were long before that at 12-13, including making fudge to sell at school, selling the likes of CD-ROM drives and packs of stiffy disks using my dad's Rectron account, etc, at school.

I know them as Skipjack. ;)

That part of the river, from the power station's outlet canal to where it joins the river, was declared a sanctuary because of the fish breeding there - In my day, hefty fines were imposed if you were caught fishing there! Not that we ever fished there at night (nudge-nudge, wink-wink!) Spent many a day digging (later pumping) for prawns, and many days/nights fishing.

Worked as a "barista" at my dad's coffee shop as a 12 / 13 year old, never was paid for that. At 15 - 16 got a holiday job as data capturer which was my first time paying tax

Worked at OneZone (I think that was the name) in Hillcrest Corner during 1st/2nd year of varsity at UP - it was an interesting setup, "Postnet" type work and DVD rentals - It provided me with a little bit of pocket money

First job was part time assistant in a Sega / Nintendo shop ( weekends and holidays )

Played a lot of games and did fokol.

Waiter at a Black Steer after leaving school. I was 17 at the time (I started schooling a year younger than most) and only made money off of tips.

Op says 1st job. Not autobiography.

According to payroll, this is my autobiography, without being indicative of time and employer.

Server (Waiter)
Server (Barman)
Marketing Clerk (I did a hell lot more than just marketing)
IT & Marketing Clerk (department switch, but changeover process)
IT Clerk (I was the most senior in the office)
IT Consultant (the typical balancing act of doing everything)
IT Consultant (the specialised type)
Senior IT Technician
R&D Assistant (possibly my coolest job ever, had to sign tons of non-disclosers)
IT Advisor (Self-employed)
Marketer (Self-employed)
