I would like a good source of mini-PCs and network appliances and Amazon always has a good crop of them. Unlike Takealot.

Will Amazon's launch here in ZA provide access to the stuff they sell in the States?

Not initially or likely the foreseeable future.. when they launch, it would be for third party sellers..

Maybe one day Amazon will also sell here, but I doubt that once they launch, we will see Amazon selling anything..

No. Some of those items are region locked anyway. For example you can't get Apple products from Amazon US.
Amazon will sell the same kuk Takealot sells. But you may find the listings that you can currently find on .com which ship to SA. They'll cost the same as on .com.

So basically, its a useless...

It depends.. if they offer prime here, we may very well get some prime day deals, maybe..

Also, depending on how their third party seller fees work, they may be a cheaper platform than takealot's, so you may find items there cheaper..

Had a short Q&A with some of my influential mates and they recon the same-same. For a while, at least.

Well if you only care about item and price yes.
But if you care about shipping cost, shipping speed, after sales, etc. maybe not.
If prime is available with free next day shipping that would be a huge bonus.

Time will tell.
But Takealot constantly cancelling items I order with "supplier out of stock" is something I'd be happy to see the end of.
Or warranty disputes.
Or needing to send an email to get a refund into my account instead of "store credit"
Or not actually getting next day delivery and then needing to jump through hoops to get my next day fee returned to me
Or crappy Takealot drivers not even attempting a delivery but saying they did (We literally have cameras and intercoms linked to our phones)

I don't know if Amazon will be better, but hell if they are Takealot will slowly bleed as people get fed up with those situations.

If they act as a local return depot for internationally ordered Amazon items it would make life a lot easier as well. Return local and they handle the international logistics.

For Amazon Europe the returns have to be made to the country of purchase for items over 20 Euro/GBP. For items under 25 Euro/ 20 GBP sellers have to provide returnless refunds.

Effective October 5, 2021, if you fulfill customer orders sold on Amazon.co.uk from outside the UK, we request that you offer either Returnless Refund <https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/gp/help/G202174940> or provide a Domestic return option for items and orders under ÂŁ20 (including VAT and shipping charges) as part of our Selling on Amazon Returns policy <https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/gp/help/200708210>.

Where you have provided a return address in the UK, we will generate a prepaid return label (see Amazon Prepaid Return Label), <https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/gp/help/202072200> which the customer can use to return the items. To set your UK default return address, access the Seller Account Information page, <https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/hz/sc/account-information> go to Settings > Account Info > Shipping and Returns Information section, click Return Address, and then provide with the appropriate address.

If you do not provide Amazon with a default return address in the UK for items and orders under ÂŁ20, Amazon will automatically issue the customer a refund on your behalf where return requests fall within the scope of the Amazon Return policy, <https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/cu...e=UTF8&nodeId=201819200&qid=1589958582&sr=1-1> without requiring the customer to return the item to you (Returnless Refund).

This change will help to simplify and standardize the returns process for customers and sellers for low-cost items, where international labels are generally more expensive than the cost of the item. If you do not have a UK default return address, our International Returns provider on the Solution Provider Network <https://sellercentral.amazon.com/gspn> may be able to help. The above policy will also apply to Amazon.de, Amazon.fr, Amazon.it, and Amazon.es, for all items and orders under €25 (including VAT and shipping charges).

I sometimes ask the courier to chuck my stuff over the wall (clothing items)

does he dropkick things over the wall?

Have you tried drop kicking a plastic envelope with fabric inside? It's easier to simply toss it over.

Then again drop shipping is like drop kicking.

That they definitely won't do... It would be a logistics and systems nightmare for them.
