I just had like 9 phone calls the last 3 days for friends family looking to leave South Africa but not go to America because their life savings will be worth nothing thanks to exchange rates and what we are legally allowed to take out of the country.

Many are looking at Botswana and even Zimbabwe some are looking beyond those countries because all property is now worthless. If anyone buys a house now it would be stupid because it should actually be illegal to buy a property that cannot be owned.

But what do all you think? Is it to early to tell, are people just running away with this whole thing?

Me i don't ****ing know, what the **** do we do once **** hits the fan?

Yeah this recent bill caused a lot of friends to reconsider their property investments.

A lot of family are selling their rental units and houses too.

I am seeing it first hand across the road people are fixing their home to sell it. They had enough and decided to just rent until they can leave? I mean I am actually worried

Don't be a useful fool for the propaganda. Hell we been hearing doomsayers since 1994.

Buy the house.
That is the thing, I am not jumping the gun and I own my house, not the bank I paid for this **** with everything including my health. So I am good but people that are still paying loans and **** they are not happy.

I jump the ship a little bit I am teaching my two older children how to weld... So they a practical skill as well. Maybe they need it maybe they don't

I've not had one phone call over it. But then again most of my family is overseas already.

Brilliant. This is the way. A skillset that will always be in demand. Wish I could get mine to be more 'physical'.

In the future, when we all have to suck díck to survive, you won’t be worrying about your property as much as you’ll be worrying about finding some mouthwash so you don’t wake up tasting cheese.

I rather become a one time gravity tester

I get 9 spam calls a day.

Tell them it was already a law since 1975.

Breaking it down further, it's no longer for public purpose but for public interest.
The difference between public interest and public purpose really boils down to the reason why the state wishes to acquire the property.
So they no longer want to build a highway (that the state owns) through your farm, but instead build a new town that will hopefully dwindle down to individual ownership one day.

Did you explain to them that their property isn't worthless and to stop relying on tiktok for information on their investments?

Precisely, they've always had the ability to take your land, for their interests, they haven't since 1994 so why would they now?

Losing supporters in mass reason enough for you?

My 2c ....

First thing .... Would be not to be spooked by the crowd.
What do you YOU want to do? Are you deciding with your heart or your head?

The people who want you to stay will convince you that SA is the best place on earth.
Of course they will, they are proudly South African, and dont want to be the only ones.
Sa has a lot going for it.

The ones who are moving on, have seen enough change that they realise SA isnt for them anymore.
Sometimes you go where the work is, sometimes you go where your heart takes you.

If you decide to go, it will be costly .... no matter what, both mentally and financially.

No matter where you go, seek out the SA expat community .... there is an SA expat community in almost any country .....

Some South Africans are quite entitled and arrogant .... I am not picking a fight here, but, this is just how some Saffers are ... those who become a bit humble get along, those who don't keep harping on about what they had in SA and complain about their host country endlessly ... they usually go back.

There other options other than Africa, but you need to shake off the characteristic perspective of that place, and remember that wherever you go, it is not SA .... things will be different. I can only really talk for the Americas, because thats where we have lived after SA.

We obviously decided to make the leap out of SA, and came back to get our adult kids.
I miss SA dearly, but not some of the people, none of the government folks or the politics.

We dont have a big house like we did in SA, or a big savings, or a great job title, or a fat pension, or a big car, or all the stuff we had ........... but we do have freedom and opportunity .... and we are happy.

My eldest son lives in South America, he has learnt to weld, is a great carpenter, he has a laser and 3d printing business, and makes enough to live.
He is happy.
He cant come onto mybb and brag about his new car, or new S22, or new Nvidia card .... but he has an affordable public transport system, can walk about safely, lives without fences and has the same opportunity as anyone around him.
The butcher, the baker and the motor mech in his town are all SA expats.

Regardless of where you go, if you go (or stay) ..... it is what you make it.
