Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows what the range is gonna be outside JHB metropol on launch date or there after.

I am on the far east rand towards the Heidelberg side, and this would be an idea option, as ADSL is never gonna be available for me.

Any answers would be greaty appreciated.

We're probably going to start seeing people building high-gain directional antenna's out of old satellite dishes to connect to Sentech towers 30km's away.. with the right antenna, and a bit of altitude it'll probably be possible to get some decent distance. I know you can get some serious distance even with wifi (802.11) using old sat dishes (very directional though)

"It is easy to make a surplus Primestar dish into a highly directional antenna for the very popular IEEE 802.11 wireless networking. The resulting antenna has about 22 db of gain, and is fed with 50 ohm coaxial cable."

22dBi is a lot of gain! I've also heard talk of getting a normal 90cm dish up to 25dBi gain, without an LNB.

Does anyone around ere actually play eve online???? this topic kinda went very wonky very quickly[:I]

New service by Telkom broadband speeds up to 5kbps for only R1k a month. heheh

Thanx for the INFORMATIVE info....

But does anyone know which areas will be covered on FULL roll-out?

When I spoke to one of the people answering the MyWireless call centre number, they were not able to tell me when (or where) certain areas would be 'in service'.

They did ask for name, area and telephone number, so I would suggest you give them a call and put your name down. I would imagine that the more requests from a particular area, the more likly it is that that area will move up the list of next areas to be installed.

armitage, it's not very polite to inject what should be in one thread into a completely unrelated thread...
