Personally I wouldn't buy one. Compared to your average phone, the iPhone is useless. It basically has the same functionality as phones made back in 2004. It can't mms, no 3G, you can't use mp3 ringtones without paying Apple to use one, and so on. The only thing it does is play mp3s, receive calls and look pretty. You could get away with selling it to some Apple fanboy idiot for around R4k to R5k, but don't feel good about it, it is a horrible phone :D

Just ask Maddox

Have they even released the iPhone in China? How is your brother getting a hold of them?

Depends how much it irritates you. I reckon 50 to 60m if you wind up.

Good god man! Answer the question people!!

@j_sheed: they sell for anything from 4k to as high as 8k depending on the model / capacity. Have2Have has them at about R4600 at the moment, it changes so just check.

Most of these prices are wildly inflated based on what you get in an iPhone and what they cost in the US, but thats the normal situation with supply and demand - if someone has what you want and there are not many around then they can charge pretty much whatever they like.

Personally I'd say what a used one is really worth is the apple refurbished price ($299 for a 4gig last time I checked - this is a discontinued model though); google convert to ZAR; add on shipping and a few bucks for the effort but lets face it: who'd resist the urge to slap on like 5k just because they can?

Hmm I think he could most likely sell for 4-4.5 k mark - bwana if you're really interested I can ask him where he gets them but he has sold a few over the net so far as well as the modded sims that i know of.

I have also been shopping around for a iPhone... what a mission to find one.
My brother is coming down from UK in a few days, and I was hoping to get one from UK for cheaper... sadly with the poor currency, it works out more than current local prices.

Best bet is to get one from the states...

Dude you have no idea what the iPhone can do ....

The only problem I have with the iPhone is the size. It's like a brick.

Phone + Music player + Video player + portalble gamer I think it should have a right to be chunky! :D

So I spoke to my bro and he can source the 8 gig for around 4.5k and the 16gig for 5.5k - comes standard in box with whatever hacked firmware you want and he will be in cape town within the next 1-2 months max, yay i will get myself one too :) Would I be able to sell the phones for those prices or?

Thanks

Got my iPhone for R4120 from the UK...but then again you need contacts like mine ;-). Imported unlocked ones would probably set you back R6000.

And all the critics above...bet you don't have an iPhone do ya?! ;-)

There a cell shops around SA selling them for R9k...
As you would expect, theres a huge profit margin for something thats not officially released here... as there's no "recommended retail price"
