Ok I have a 2006 OPC+ that I can get R140 000 to R149 000 trade in (will find exact number tomorrow) for.

Car is debt free.

If I try and sell privately, I should get about 10 - 15 grand more.

I'm looking at the new OPC. Can get it all-in (on the road) for R420 000. It's a beautiful car - trust me - seen it. Driven it. It's not that much quicker or more powerful than my current OPC (yes, 177KW vs 206KW I know - still not more impressive than my current car I reckon).

But the new Audi S3 drops in next month at R440 000. And second hand there is a lot out there at this price range.

But, fugg, this new OPC looks so good.....

Help me folks, help me.....

My dad just bought the A3 1.8 quottro stronic and wow, it's currently the highest spec before the new S3s soon we have been given amazing service at audi with the purchase of the car and waited 3 months to deliver on it due to the extras and all we added.

It's really am amazing car, quality, build the interior is wow you need to test drive it to feel it, sitting on 132kw the new s3 will be over 200 and with a full aluminium body it gives it that weight advantage, my point of view quality of power but in the s3 terms it's the best of both.... So amazed by the audi that we went back a month later and bought a new a1 too

How is the A1?

It's amazing absolutely love it, it's my car now and wow am I impressed it's the standard 1.4 tfsi (turbo) with spec sheet saying 90kw but damm does it feel awesome, really has more than enough power and I'm so happy with it the quality of the ride, the car the inside it's a purchase I would defiantly never look back on. I upgraded from a mini cooper s convertible to this car and I'm taken back hey really love it.

The inside is perfect and the only complaint I have with interior is if you get the middle armrest (it's a extra) added it's awkward to put your seat belt on and let the hand break down when the arm rest is down (thankfully can be moved up or down) that's it everything else is awesome, in order to feel the 90kw you need to drive it I just beat a bmw320i yesterday in pull off to about 110km then he got me haha but the automatic also is amazing on this car with a dual clutch system

Are you sure about that S3 pricing? I was thinking it would be closer to the 500k mark. Then there are the extra's (of which the DSG for me is a must)

If you are near that budget range, push a bit extra and get an m135i. It is incredible.

I think the OPC is seriously over priced for what it is. But, if its what you want and will enjoy then go for it.

You cannot go wrong with either of these 2. I would personally take the OPC, just because of the looks. It is one of the, if not the, hottest hot hatches out there. S3 might be the more grown up choice though. And guessing build quality will also be a notch better on the Audi. But go with your heart mate.

But yes, I would also choose the M135i over both these. Driven it and it is absolutely amazing. Can pick it up for around R485 000 brand new.

S3 also has a full motor plan, which is something to consider i suppose. I have read that whilst it is very fast, it isnt "fun"

It is my dream car at the moment. Again I would get it with the automatic box, which push's the price up a little bit.
Sadly, I am being responsible and sticking with my crappy car and investing the money I would have used for payments.
Sometimes I wish I was as irresponsible as I used to be :)

I have also been in contact with BMW a lot over the last few months. They are very eager to give good discounts. Best offer I received so far is R35 000 off the final price.

Thanks for the input. A while ago I tried to arrange a test drive of the M135i and they would only do so if I signed an offer to purchase....

Only thing (besides the price) that puts me off are the bland looks. I haven't seen one in the flesh though. Hmm. Maybe I should go take a look.

I prefer the understated looks to be honest. I dont think it has the best interior, but that is soon forgotten once you drive it and hear that amazing engine sound

There is nothing wrong with your current OPC, take the money you would spend on a new car an invest it for an early retirement

Sound advice. But an early retirement means you have enough money to buy things then and enjoy yourself - I wan't to enjoy things now as well :)

I agree, I myself prefer to enjoy things now, when I am young and can enjoy them more.

But in your case you already have a good, sporty car, and like you said the new OPC is not that much faster. Its more about satisfying a new car fix.

I currently drive an old Audi A4 and I really really want to buy a newer A4 2.0T or even an S/RS but when I sit down and thing about it, I will be paying nearly 6k a month for a car that feels pretty much the same as my car. Thats why I made the decision to keep the car.

To be honest I have found a new (much cheaper way) to satisfy the new car itch, by buying a motorbike :D

The way I always look at it is, if right now something goes wrong with my car, e.g. the control arms need to be replaced, that is an extra R3000 out of my pocket which sucks, BUT, if I buy a new car, I will be paying double that every month lol, which is quite depressing.

If you do decide to go ahead though I would rather put my money on the Audi, I have always loved their build quality and the way the car feels and looks, it reeks of quality. It will most likely have less power than the new OPC but I think it will put it down better. Keep in mind however that I know nothing about the new S3

Yeah, gotta agree with you on that part - it is an itch :)

And trade is now R135 000.

Sigh. This is pure head versus heart.....

I say you only live once. If you have enough for retirement then go for it. Buy what makes you happy..
