Whatever happened to Neotel?

I was walking down the street yesterday and I walked over a Neotel manhole cover in the pavement and got me thinking, whatever happened to our so-called "second national operator for fixed line telecommunication services"? All I can more or less remember is how awful their wireless products were based on the numerous complaints on Mybroadband, and how, as far as I can remember, they never actually supplied any fixed-line products, at least not to any residential customers.

They couldn't keep up so they fizzled out. We used them for awhile at home, they had a "wireless" handset that was decently priced and even the calls were cheap, but they pretty much closed down last year.

Aren't they now wholly trading as Liquid Telecom?

They are owned by Liquid Telecom, but I believe their products phased into LT. I am unsure, I don't work with Liquid Telecom so I won't know and I don't ask random questions.

Yes, I remember, that was the ridiculous thing. They were supposed to be South Africa's second fixed-line operator, but in the end they only rolled out wireless products to residential customers.
