What comes next and how do we know when it will arrive? Anywhere to read about planned / expected features?

A new version is released twice every year, one in April and one in October. The version number reflects the release date, in other words 9.10 was released October 2009. Since the next version is due April 2010, it will be 10.4. Here is the release schedule for 10.4: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LucidReleaseSchedule

What we can expect is a half-hearted and confusing attempt at re-themeing Gnome. Apart from that, a planned cool feature is iPhone/iPod support. Since 10.4 will be a LTS release (Long Term Support), they will probably focus more on rounding off everything from the previous release and making sure everything is as smooth as possible instead of introducing many new features. The next exciting release will be 10.10 which should include more cutting-edge tech.

Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx will be the *buntu after 9.10. According to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LucidReleaseSchedule it will be released on April 29th this year. So it is almost here.

Regarding features:
The new release includes the Linux kernel 2.6.32 and improved support for nVidia proprietary graphics drivers, while switching to the open source nVidia graphics driver, nouveau, by default.

On 4 March 2010 it was announced that Lucid Lynx will feature a new theme, including new logos, taking Ubuntu's new paradigm into account

About the new look can be read here: http://mybroadband.co.za/news/columns/11680.html
About other features can be read here: http://mybroadband.co.za/news/software/11662.html

And 10.4 is a new Long Term Support release, awesome as I like to install only LTS on Ubuntu-newbies.

Ouch!! That's a bit harsh. I love Ubuntu themes....sometimes I think they design it just for me. :)

We'll see whether you think it's harsh once you lay eyes on the new theme that shuffles around all your window icons.
