What's for lunch?

We stayed very true to our diet throughout the festive season so decided to spoil ourselves today.

After a succulent rib eye steak with chimichurri sauce I spotted caramel-filled spring rolls on the menu.

Was totally worth it.

Where?

Dhal khao machi.

The fish was fresh and not overcooked, flaking off perfectly.

Moo Moo Wine Bar & Grill.
Brooklyn Mall (Brooklyn Square actually but the two are connected)

We were actually on a little Diners Drive-Ins and Dives trip this whole day until now. Looking for something different. Getting tired of all the commercialised places dishing up the same ol' same ol'.

Two of the places we wanted to try out today were closed until next week so we ended up at two other joints. One of them being Moo Moo.

Wanted to try Afro-Boer but they were closed. So we ended up at Vovo Telo in Woodlands. I know they have a few stores in Gauteng but it is still not a Mug & Bean or a Spur. We had an awesome experience. Freshly baked bread and croissants used for our light meals and their hot chocolate drinks were to die for. Wife had a croissant with parma ham, goats cheese and rocket salad. I had pulled chicken and emmental cheese served on a ciabatta roll.

I also indulged in something called Pastei de Nata as the waiter called it. Basically just a Portuguese custard tart, but an amazing one.
I found the focus with everything served was on flavour and freshness instead of size and the normal combinations of ingredients.

Then for lunch we wanted to try Cafe Beyritz. Pretty upmarket place but wife really really wanted to try their Chocolate Fondant. They were also closed. So friends told us to try Moo Moo as they also serve the fondants. So we headed to Brooklyn. And we were not disappointed. Definitely going back there again to try out their Kobe Beef Burger. Ended up eating the steak and chimichurri today.

Between those two places we went shopping a bit and also ended up having coffee at some place at Atterbury Value Mart. Nothing special and their menu otherwise was also pretty bland with just the standard stuff.

Ultramel?

Imagine a more generic tasting version of that, yeah. I made a custard the other day where I beat the whites till they were frothy before folding them into the rest and it was so light and creamy...mmm

Nice - homemade custard with egg is the bomb.

Those things are yummy. I live off them in Angola

Lunch at Addis in Cape yesterday. Mix of Ethiopian curries on top of a giant sourdough pancake (Injera). Coffee, incense & popcorn afterwards

2-ingredient pancakes / flapjacks. Banana & an egg - that's it.
