What's for lunch?

Though about making some myself - there's a setting on the pressure cooker I got a while back. Can I use any store bought yogurt as a starter?
No. You need to pick one that is as fresh and clean as possible. For clean it is just yogurt as-is without too many add-ins and preservatives. It must however say that it contains actual live yogurt cultures otherwise it just won't work. Then you would need to workout the ratio of yogurt to milk and hours in the pot/yogurt maker. I do 60 ml store bought yogurt with 2 liter of extra fat milk (jersey, woolworths) for 10 hours. However, you also need to do these steps properly

In large mixing bowl (I use my stand mixer, but I guess a hand mixer would work fine)
0. Prewash everything I am going to use, you need to be clinically clean as possible to avoid contamination with everything
1. 240 ml milk + 60 ml yogurt -> mix 10 mins on min setting
2. Then I add a little bit of condensed milk, but you can skip this -> mix 10 mins min setting
3. Add rest of milk -> mix 15 mins on min setting
4. Finally add to instant pot, set on yogurt for 10 hours (you use a glass lid here, not the pressure one)
5. Now let it cool for 2 hours min, but I do 3
6. Add as-is to fridge with cover, I have a silicone lid which fits airtight, leave for 24 hours
7. This part is ****, but try to mix it as little as possible as you scoop it from the bowl into the containers
8. Leave the containers with the milk for another 24 hours in fridge

Note: real reason you go low and slow with the mixing is that you don't want to end up with a mixture that is not just mixed milk and when you add it to the instant pot you kinda have a separation going.

btw when you have your own yogurt you can take from that instead of using store bought each time. For the store bought I had good success with these (via spar)
Kulture Double Cream (preferred if I can get it)
Ambledale Double Cream (2nd choice)
Verlorenkloof Double Cream (3rd choice)

As for the milk I had the best results with Jersey, but ok results with any other full cream so far.
Expect failure first few times or not so great results, but I did get those because I was playing around with the ratios and ingredients.

Gosh isn't it easier to just order from Woolies or Checkers?

Order what exactly? the milk?

I do my own bread (flat, normal, buns, rolls, sour, ...) as well. Even my pie crusts are self-made and then I still got too many self-made vinegars (mango, lichi, lime, strawberry, raisons).
