I log into my router, my speed fluctuates from 1890kbps to 2930kbps. Whats going on? Pages don't load at all sometimes :(

If I were you I'd report a fault, that's not normal. I sync constantly @ 4096

Right after you login, you should see in the middle frame all sorts of info about your router and connection. At the bottom of that page, there are two buttons. If I recall correctly the one on the left is the "Connection Statistics" (or something similar) button. If you click that, it will popup a window that lists your line statistics, such as "Noise Margin", and "Line Attentuation", both of which will be available for downstream and upstream (in that order, I believe).

See if you can take a screenshot, or at least copy and paste those figures here... Also, set the "Interval" at the bottom to 1 second (it defaults to 10 seconds), and watch your figures for fluctuation. If you notice any fluctuation, see if you can post what the figures vary from (e.g. for a few seconds your "Noise Margin" for downstream may be 10, and then it suddenly drops to 6).

This any good? I have a 4mbps line running at 2688kbps ATM at:

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream

Connection Speed 2688 kbps 384 kbps

Line Attenuation 54.0 db 31.5 db

Noise Margin 11.9 db 13.0 db

boramk, the noise levels are 'ok', however you are very far from your exchange... hence the high attenuation... from my experiance anything very close if not 55db attenuation, you are going to have problems...

firstly, did you sync at 4096 before you noticed syncing lower? or is it possible you have always synced at around 2688kbps??

if you have synced perfectly at 4 meg before, then you need to log a fault, and a techie needs to check your line.. there could be some corrosion(spelling) at the end of your lines, or something at the exchange has gone wrong..

yes, i have synced perfectly at 4mbit

been there, done that, been a year and they done **** all:(

Sounds all to familiar - my crystal ball predicts that they're going to downgrade you to 2mb, it will rectify the situation, and they will have little interest in further investigation.

At least thats what they did to me. :(
