So, I've just completely rebuilt my computer from scratch and for some reason, I don't seem to be able to even get into my bios. Everything turns on; fans, graphics card, cpu cooler's fan and my hard drive, but I get nothing on my screen.

I've tried a different screen, different graphics card, different processor and I've unplugged as many peripherals as I can, so I know it's not the power supply.

My 4870 tells me:

3 Of the circled LED's are on; D1601 - Red LED On, shows critical temperature fault
D1602 - Red LED On, shows External power connector A was removed
D1603 - Red LED On, shows External power connector B was removed

The light that isn't on means critical Core power fault.

I'm thinking it's a motherboard fault, as I've handled it a little rough during the build.

What do you guys think?

Sounds like a video card problem. I had a similar situation recently with a broken graphics card. Everything turns on except the monitor. Do you have warranty?

Try unplug one of the PCI-E 6 pin connectors on it and then switch the PC on. The screen should come up with a message ( red writing) saying you havent plugged in the one external power plug... Then you know it cant be the card

@Cerebus, I tried a different graphics card (X1950 Pro) to no avail...

@Greylid, Tried that and I don't get anything on my screen at all.

@ Deveza, nope, no onboard VGA

Does the computer beep at all? Maybe i dislodged ram modual

Aaaah, I remember pressing that by accident. Tried again, but still nothing. Any way for me to check if it's flat?

@ Greylid, no sound coming from case whatsoever... :(

Have you checked your ram then?:)

Connect it to a torch bulb....

When you say you rebuilt the pc , did you remove the heatsink / cpu ?

Did you plug in the yellow/black power cable ?

@ Greylid, still nothing :(

One thing I have noticed is that usually when I turn my computer on, the 3 lights on my keyboard (Num lock, caps lock etc) would flash. Now they don't, don't know it that makes any difference...

@ daveza, i'll try the torch thing. Ya, I removed the heatsink and CPU. Yellow/black power cable?

I think daveza means the four pin ATX power cable that goes directly into your motherboard. . Normally just behind the CPU socket

Similar thing last week for me. Got new case so swapped out everything. When I powered up the new box nothing happened. Went round on circles for an hour pulling my hair out swapping this, disconnecting that, plugging unplugging, reading manuals to no avail.

Then I realised the CMOS jumper had fallen off.....

Well, all the power cables are in as far as I can see...

@Freshy, any idea where that CMOS thing would be located?

CPU is in properly, I've taken it out and put it back in 3 times

Odd that you aren't getting any beeps.

At a guess you bent the board and may have a dry joint.

Try pressing down on the board at various locations.

Also check that there is nothing under the board ( like a screw ) that is creating a connection between the board and the case.

On my MB its a little plastic jumper that goes over 2 of 3 little pins. It has an imprint on the board that says CMOS.

No screws or anything underneath the board, tried pressing on it and still nothing. CMOS jumper is still in place...

So far, the only thing that gives me an indication of what might be wrong is my graphics card;

Those 3 LEDs on my graphics card are not supposed to be on...
