What's the right term for this?

I'm not sure of the right term for this, and am hoping someone can help me out

You usually can configure a single DSL account in your DSL router, for example, TelkomInternet.
I also have an Axxess free internet account, and an Afrihost free internet account.

In Windows, I've set up alternative internet connections via the Network & Sharing Center

Set up a new connection or network
Connect to the Internet
Broadband PPPoE

So now I can right-click and connect to Axxess or Afrihost as I please (usually during the midnight promo timeslot). I can also use this to piggy-back my personal DSL accounts when using other people's Wi-Fi so I don't use up their data caps.

What is the term for this internet connection "piggy backing" ?

And a second question, every ISP seems to work fine except Afrihost, where I always get a 691 or 692 error code... suspect Afrihost has disabled this method somehow, but if I don't even know the term for this little trick, I doubt I understand how it functions either

I believe its called setting up a desktop PPPOE connection....And as for the errors It does happen sometimes, I think its a windows bug, or it could be that Afrihost network security features blocking unwanted access to your account( I'm assuming its a capped account?), their RADIUS server probably has a connection limit, as to how many connections your account can be linked to at a time...if it detects multiple connections to your account within a certain period it will block that connection, and should reset after a few hours...I might be wrong on the whole RADIUS server thing.

Great, thanks - that term sounds familiar!

The only config options I can see for PPPoE settings are username & password, so presuming those are right, this should work then... so I have no idea what config issue it can be besides that. I'll run a manual test via my router to see if the bridging works.

Hey, I am trying a single connection to Afrihost / Axxess while my router is connected to the Telkom Internet account (i.e. router authenticates to Telkom, I right-click connect to Afrihost or Axxess. The Axxess one works, Afrihost doesn't).

Well I have a free 1GB Afrihost account to test connection if necessary and I know on that particular package the account is linked to the landline number used upon registration and cannot be used with any other number, whether the account is being used or not.

That may be a problem if you are on someone else's wifi. If not, then I'm not entirely sure what the problem is.
