20130710_135125.jpgHey All. I have a printer thats broken. Its actually a diagnostic machine for Mercedes Benz, but its the same socket as a printer/external 3.5 hdd enclosure etc. See the attached pic.

Anyways, what is this called and where can I get a replacement in Durban?

Please help:confused:

Edit: Its called a USB Type B Female Connector (Wiki). Still cant find in Durbs though

Ask any PC store for a USB Printer cable. USB Type A to B.

Thanks. But I do not need the cable. I need the socket that the cable plugs in to. I will then solder this replacement socket onto the mobo. Read the post. Look at the pic....

I've never seen the sockets sold loose but you could try Uniterm.

Personally I'd probably just cut the male end off a USB extension cable and solder that straight to the board.

Interesting idea. But the guys at workshop go through cables like its nobody's business. Last resort is to actually buy the cheapest component I can think of with this connector. But thats last resort. This thing probably costs R5 if I can find it.

I have heard it callef a kettle plug too.
You are thinking of an normal power plug for your PSU. I used an old kettle plug before on a PC :)

Don't you have an old broken printer lying around (just a long-shot)? I have never seen one of those plugs sold separately. I know of a place in CPT that would probably sell that, but I can't remember the store name. Only know where to find the store.

dabean has a good idea.

Hi Guys,
