What plan are you on? Seems to be something that tells you how much discount your will get at that time while connected to whichever tower if you make a call.

When I started getting these messages was on a Telkom FreeMe 20gig contract. Have since moved to an 11gig contract (still Telkom). Never run out of minutes or data.

That would be network Cell Broadcasts. You can turn them off on your sms settings.

Back in the day it was useful when Vodacom had nice tower names, then they introduced this story linked to some prepaid plan with a discount based on the time of day and tower and that was what was broadcast , made it a useless feature.

I recall getting live cricket scores depending on the codes saved in the broadcast settings on my Nokia 5110. You would only receive CB messages for the codes that you saved or selected. Also on vodacom at the time.
