Hi guys, I had a friend over yesterday that copied some stuff from my pc, and all of a sudden, my Firefox wouldn't open, my HDD's wanted to autoplay each time I tried opening them etc..

Anyways, I'm running XP SP2, decided to format my Windows partition and re-install XP.
So : I did just that, and when I finished installing my drivers, I got this error :
Runtime error at 00407964???
My HDD's still wants to autoplay and when I double click them to open them, I get :
Please go to control panel to configure hardware...

I did scan my pc with antivirus software, turned up clean, have any of you got an idea what this might be?
Thanx

when you formatted did you make sure both hdd's where formatted?

no point formatting your c drive if the virus is lurking is D

clean off all your data format both drives, reload windows

then turn off system restore

what anti virus are you using?

Problem is I've got stuff on D that I don't wanna lose...
(I've got a 250GB and a 500GB, 4 partitions, XP, Vista, Storage, Storage)
In vista, everything seems to be running fine, no autoplay of HDD's , nada...

what anti virus are you using?
I scanned my pc with an updated version of BitDefender (Free version)

turn off system restore
Noob question, how do I do that?

ok dude firstly, the virus has infected both hdd's

reloading is not going to help your other hdd, the virus is sitting in that hdd as well, the strange thing i found with virus is my anti virus never picked it up

you need to do a totally clean format, i had the same thing and had to buy a drive to back up to

start right click my computer select properties click on system restore and turn it off

you can try reloading your pc and switching system restore off as soon as you load in but i doubt it will work to remove it from your other hdd

also download aVG also free and better i feel

this is a virus that is not fun because its almost impossible to remove without formatting

vista wont be affected by a xp virus

maybe try and download avg and do a scan before formatting

I am currently scanning my pc with AVG Free (Updated)
It gets this error : Worm/DelfAXJ
filenames : spoclsv.exe , in (C:/WINDOWS/dRivErs/spoclsv.exe)
setup.exe in (C:/setup.exe)

this is on my newly installed drive...
Hopefully AVG will be able to fix this.
Which Antivirus are you guys running?
Prefferably freeware??
Thanx

ya diabolic this is virus not a windows bug atleast i think its the same thing i had

the best way to use avg if you have a virus is to load windows in safe mode

then run windows and run it again to be sure

also go to msconfig run and startup untick anything you think is dodgy

basically untick everything cept for your avg

cool no prob.
just googled it to see if i could help him out.

i think its the same thing i had
I see that my AVG is picking it up on all four of my HDD's, I'll wait for AVG to finish and try your suggestion of running it in safe-mode...
Hopefully I'll be able to clean it (holdin thumbs)
Were you able to remove it without losing your data, or did you have to format?
thanks for the help @ Killadooband Diabolic :D

no its good to try and help man :), for his sake i hope that works

i backed it all up on another drive

what i did not do was copy folder's and only files because the virus could hiding anywhere

I've just restarted XP in normal mode after completing the virus scan in Safe Mode with System Restore disabled..

AVG came up clean (after disinfecting the files that were affected) in Safe Mode.
However, my HDD's are still autorunning?
Weird..And my Windows partition has started autorunning again :(
Seems like I'll be formatting all.
Thanks Killa

yea man soz to hear it, this is very bad virus

but do yourself a big favour man, run firefox with AVg as your anti virus and you wont pick up this problem again

also just about interest is your xp SP2?

Yeah, I did have SP2, but didn't have all the updates (That XP-installation was less than a week old..)
Anyways, I've formatted all 750GB of my HDD space, re-installed and got most of my important files backed-up on a DVD (documents etc) or from friends (Series, movies etc)
So in effect I've lost the minimum..
Thanks for the help, will run AVG all the time from now-on :)

Quickest way to ensure that you have all the required patches, updates and extras from Microsoft after installation is to use Autopatcher. (http://www.autopatcher.com).
Download the full update once, appr 350meg, and do a monthly update of appr 30meg. Takes about an hour and your PC is up to date. Works like a charm.

oops, forgot to mention, does not include all service packs. For xp neither sps.
And for those with a "slightly doggy" XP, things like MediaPlayer11 and IE7 still need to "validate".
