Hi

Have a 2011 Sandero. Basically two problems have developed / appear sporadically and need to know what's wrong / what I am in for. I will mention a third problem, but don't think its critical.

One: on and off (can last a couple weeks and disappear for a couple weeks) - the car has a definite shudder when lifting off the clutch from stationary. Also feels as if it does not quite engage immediately. Once it goes it goes though. Also, as mentioned, the shudder comes and goes.

Two: My car idles at 500rpm. But when I am sitting at a robot it will suddenly start revving 'itself' to about 2500 rpm. I then have to push the accelerator to about 4000rpm and it stops the auto-revving - until the next robot.

Lastly - the heat guage will reach normal temperature (4 bars) and then randomly drop to two bars before returning to the 4 bars.

Thanks for any advice

Two: I think your cars idling is set too low then it revs up to prevent it switching off. Same as the older generation Yaris.

Car is still in sp /mp or warranty no?

Yip - 5 year warranty. Planning to take it in - just wondered how serious these problems sounded or if u knew what they were.

I would just take it in as soon as possible, it could all be electronics related or it could be all seperate issues, did they all start at the same time or over time, eg

clutch issue or electrical

sticky accelerator cable or elctrical

electrical or faulty thermostat

could be many things though i am not all that clued up

Does the heat gauge and revving coincide? Most new control the idling electronically based on a couple of factors, air conditioning, engine temp etc. It is possible that your thermostat is faulty, causing the car to go into warm-up mode thus the higher revving.

The clutch shuddering is a definite indication of a worn out clutch, especially if it feels like it's slipping as well. This should not be the case with a car that is 1 year old, but it can happen depending on your/previous owner's driving style.

The thermostat problem (if it is that) should be cheap to fix. The clutch not so much. How many km do you have on the car?

Thanks everyone - they seem to be unrelated and happen all at different times. I've booked it for tomorrow so let's see :)

If I had to guess:

  1. Clutch in its death throws. Which'd be a little odd for a car that's only a year-and-a-bit old... how many kilometers has it done? Although, I see you're also asking about tyres elsewhere; a set of tyres' lifetime is certainly long enough to comprehensively stuff a clutch.
  2. I assume the Sandero has an electronic throttle, and this behaviour is likely down to a wonky throttle pedal position sensor.
  3. Could be a number of causes, but probably a failed thermostat.

If the clutch is on its way out, don't expect your warranty to cover it. The other two should be quick warranty fixes.

The cluth problem was present on my car as well when my car was leaking oil and water onto it. Maybe worth a check for that.

The other 2 definitely sound like Electronic Control Unit (ECU) glitches, especially for a car that new.

But I am no expert.

Not sure if this is relevant to your case, but maybe....

The odd revving happened to someone I knows audi, it happened to be in that case dirt in the petrol. The person filled up the car and the garage's petrol tank ran empty thus all the dirty from the bottom of the petrol tank came up with the last bit of fuel and ended up in the cars fuel system, thus blocking the petrol from travelling smoothly thus the electronic idling system would adjust to compensate more petrol would all of the sudden be let trough when the dirty blockage moved and the car would over rev.
