What's your Uber passenger rating?

On their website you set the auto tip % which defaults to 20%.

Gratuity for TAXI

Your preferred gratuity will be applied to any future TAXI trips that you request through Uber. This will apply to TAXI fares only (not Black, SUV, or uberX) and be paid to your driver. Gratuity only applies in certain countries.

I'm also not understanding this.

I used them once last year (my only time and it was with a voucher). I noted on the website that you set your auto tip % which defaults to 20%. I changed mine to 10%. But as PP pointed out it's not relevant here, I thought it was. I'd rather not deal with cash at all, so would prefer a tip being added to the credit card charge, if I wanted to tip.

Average rating is 5.0 and never tipped. Been on 7 trips now. Never carry cash on me and tips aren't specified on the app.

A little chit chat and respect goes a long way. Never been rowdy and always a good passenger. My mother would be proud.

5.0 from 1 trip.

Whoot!

And it was free. Was a good experience.

I really do go out of my way to chat and be respectful to the drivers.

Now, here is my Uber rating plan going forward :

Keep track of the current rating and number of trips.
Then after each ride wait to get your new rating as a passenger before you rate the driver, and if it is a unreasonably bad rating, send the driver a bad rating right back.

Here is how you calculate your latest rating (someone can check my maths)

(New Average Rating * Total number of trips) - (Old Average * (Total Number of trips - 1))

Here Total number of trips is the number of trips INCLUDING your latest.

So if you used to have a 5.0 average after 10 trips and for trip 11 your average goes down to 4.7
That means he gave you a rating of (4.7 * 11) - (5.0 * 10) = 1.7

So you got around a two star rating for the 11th trip. They only show one decimal so there are going to be rounding inaccuracies but you get the idea.

I don't think you can do anything on uber before rating your last ride. You need to rate to close the pop-up.

4.6/12 trips, longest R193.

I usually chat to the guys.. but yah i think most of the guys expect a tip and i only 50% of the time give a tip.. usually for rides under R150.

Personally I think for short trips a tip is preferable as their markup is little.. for larger trips not so much. I think if you don't tip on short trips you likely to get negative rating for high volume areas as the driver is now back of the queue for a short trip so make a loss servicing your request in a sense

FFS, you're not supposed to pay a cash tip - it's a configurable percentage built in to your automated payment which is defaulted at 20%. Why would you pay 20% and then also hand over cash? Not handling cash is the whole point of Uber.

4.7 from 14 rides. never tipped.
I'd say that's quite good?

Last trip I made was Friday night\Saturday morning which luckily wasn't booked from my account.
I questioned the driver about the route he took and made him take a detour which I couldn't tell if he was happy or upset about.
Turned it into a very long trip which means much more money for him but it was late and he wanted to get home.

Yes I was a bit drunk :P
