So after Facebook acquired WhatsApp, quiet a few forumites threatened to ditch WhatsApp for some reason. Who has done so?

Want to ditch WhatsApp to use Telegram & Textsecure but nobody else is using it and I cant get people to use it so stuck using whatsapp.

Why? I've only just joined WhatsApp :wtf: I hate FB

Most people don't give a damn whether Facebook, Google, the NSA etc. has access to their online information. The convenience of the most popular communication tools outweighs the worthless gibberish that is spewed on them being monitored by dubious corporations.

The only concern most people had with Facebook and WhatsApp was whether WhatsApp would change. It hasn't, so life goes on.

I also think so.

However, I actually wish there would be more integration between the two since I tend to use both quite a lot. I just wish my contacts would all be in one place. Maybe the ones on Facebook could also be found on WhatsApp via their facebook accounts while the ones on WhatsApp can also be found on Facebook via their WhatsApp accounts. So maybe both apps could have their functions blended together to become some kind of super apps of each other. Wouldn't that be great.

They are both the "shizmadooks".

Although I spread awareness on the awesomeness of Telegram, very few of my contacts made the switch. I'm therefore forced to use both...for now.

I have both. Whatsapp is pretty great, as most people in South Africa don't have unlimited texting.
but I do avoid Facebook.

So basically nobody actually switched because of FB getting involved?

You knew the answer to this with your first post. Everybody else is on WA and don't care about FB's involvement. So you lose a type of communication when you uninstall it. I just don't trust FB. I am concerned that they will harvest mine and others' details. I'm probably a bit paranoid, but that is how I saw it and still does.

What is the rationale behind this. I mean what is the worst that could happen. Do you feel that they will mis-handle your info and loose it?

I don't think Facebook will irresponsibly give out the cellphone numbers of their users to random websites we liked. Especially without the consent of the users.
If they did I think they would loose too much support. They would loose my support.

Loose it? There are things like identity fraud. And the more info you have, the easier the chance that their security systems might be compromised by hackers. Also, they have been known to take chances in the past with provicy. If they were more diligent with the easy they handled privacy in the past, I might have been more relaxed about the merger
