WhatsApp fake news problem

WhatsApp has a big problem with fake news on its platform and is now looking for help from researchers to solve it.

The company has commissioned a competitive set of awards to researchers interested in exploring issues related to misinformation on WhatsApp.

It's the users that spread it to other users, I don't think there is a solution except for people to take a "identify nonsense" test before being allowed to use whatsapp, and that aint gonna happen.

Whatsapp has a stupid user problem I think would be a better description of the problem.

Someone needs to trace the obvious BS thats not even funny or satire back to its origin. It should be interesting to see who actually produces some of it.

Was just about to mention that the world has a stupid people problem. :D

This is insane and stupid. It is like trying to make a cell service provider responsible for what people talk about on their phones.

Most of the fake news comes from Facebook and then is spread through whatsapp

I just sent a message back to the person saying fake news.

The messages usually eventually stops. I am not sure if the person realize most of the messages are fake or they are just removing me from their forward list. At least I don't receive the nonsense anymore.

The amount of people that forward the fake messages amazes me. It's like old network hub that just forwards messages to every port without checking what is in the packet.
