WhatsApp Google Drive backup: how to use it

Any update on the Google Drive WhatsApp Backup option being missing?

S4 and S5 both with 2.12.367 - no Google Drive backup option.
Google accounts active and working on all other Google apps.
WhatsApp - uninstalled, cleared cache, restarted, re-installed. No luck. Still missing.

Updated google drive and whatsapp (to 367, same as people above). Whatsapp doesn't give the google backup option

Another oddity, I always did a local backup, I assume that it went to my sd card. Now after the Googole back up, that seems to be the default. When I switched to a new phone, with my old sd card in it, Whatsapp started using the Google back up, instead of the sd card one.

iCloud backup has been around for a while but here's the thing. Change phone and watch your backup delete itself LMFAO.

Huh? Never had such an issue. Swopped phones multiple times and had my Whatsapp messages.

I just updated to 2.12.367 on my Nexus 5 and the option is definitely still there for me. Settings -> Chats and Calls -> Chat Backup. The text claims to do a local backup and a Google Drive one.

I had issues with WhatsApp earlier this month, so I did a complete re-install while on 2.12.317.

which is why it will download what you had previously deleted?

When I switched phones in 2013, I took my sd card out of my old phone, and put in the new one. Downloaded Whatsapp on the new one, and it recovered my messages from the old sd card.

Now, I take the sd crad out of my 2013 phone, and put it in my new one. Instead of using the sd backup, it chose to download the Google one. That seems like a waste to me. I wasn't given the option of restoring messages from my sd card.

Same here actually had to Copy the Whatsapp Folder to Internal Storage 1st and even then some Conversations weren't up to date as before backup.
