So two and a half a months after iOS 7 has been released, whatsapp has finally been updated.

What do you guys think?

First impression… mutton dressed as lamb.

Found it at blog.whatsapp.com

First, we are updating our business model for new iPhone users going forward. As you know, we used to charge iPhone users a $.99 one time payment, while Android and other platforms had free service for the first year and paid $0.99 a year after that. From now on, we’ve simplified our business model so that all users on all platforms will enjoy their first year of WhatsApp service for free, and only pay $.99 per year after that. We feel that this model will allow us to become the communications service of the 21st century, and provide you the best way to stay in touch with your friends and family with no ads getting in the way. The good news for all current iPhone users is that WhatsApp will be free of charge for the rest of your life.

Second, we’ve added an option to backup your message history to iCloud. We spent the last six months working to make iCloud backup as simple and user friendly as possible. On your iPhone, go into ‘WhatsApp Settings > Chat Settings > Chat Backup’ if you want to back up your conversation history. When you reinstall the app, you will be prompted to restore from iCloud during the initialization process.

Third, since we’re engineers at heart, we’ve introduced developer hooks into WhatsApp. We’ve had many other iOS developers ask us for API hooks to make interfacing with WhatsApp easy. Now you can do that. Learn more at http://www.whatsapp.com/faq/en/iphone/23559013

That’s all folks.

Opens up WhatsApp.
Crashes on contact list.

FINALLY! The old behaviour of Whatsapp in iOS7 was so disjointed with the keyboard. Big improvement.

I wonder why we're still denied access to out own alert tones?

I like it. But it seems you can't swipe away push notifications anymore, you have to actually CLICK the little "x". Very retarded... Unless I'm being the retard?

Slightly off-topic, has anyone ever had to pay to use whatsapp? In the 4 years I've had it I've never had to pay.

Its not bad but I expected more with their glacial dev cycle... I'm not sure what WhatsApp offers over Facebook Messenger which is free...

Does Facebook Messenger use your contacts list and phone number, or is it based only on your Facebook list? Because I don't even use Facebook, and I just want to message people on my contacts list.

Their updates will be meaningless to me until they introduce the option of selecting who can SEE & contact you. I hate the fact that anyone who has my number can see my status & profile pic. I only want to contact max 10 people via WhatsApp. My number is out there due to work & it is not enough to block hundreds of numbers if these people can still see you.

They should actually make an option that you have to be added on both sides before your picture or anything is available, even showing that you are online or not.
Wish that stupid fking "last seen" option would disappear.
