Whatsapp issue

All of a sudden, my WhatsApp contacts are displayed showing their numbers, instead of names. They are all on my phone's contact list.

Any ideas?

Remove whatsapp from recent app list. Clear cache. Open and see if that works. Have you tried rebooting your phone?

you took away the permission for whatsapp to view your contacts.
go to settings, applications , applications manager - Whatsapp- permissions - make sure contacts is ticked

I should have known
A couple of days ago, the phone kept on nagging about app overlays need to be off whenever I wanted to install something (Android 6).
I promptly uninstalled my most recent stuff & was fine. Maybe that stuffed around with permissions.
Maybe I'll just install Telegram to see how many contacts I have there, however, WhatsApp works for me & my business.

i can help with this too. you mean screen overlay
certain apps can appear over others like facebook messenger when you get a message the persons face always appears over everything unless you move it to the x.
some apps caus crap with this - trial and error to find which one i noticed on a lady at work some font app kept giving her the error when i removed that it was sorted.

Change WhatsApp's app permissions in the applications contact to be able to access your contacts. That will solve the problem.
