Whatsapp messages coming through on disabled sim

Hi cellular gurus!

A user here at the office has a Huawei P9 Lite with a company sim (Telkom) and his own sim (Vodacom) inserted. He has disabled the Vodacom sim but is apparently still receiving Whatsapp messages to this number (through his Telkom mobile sim and data). Does Whatsapp still somehow utilise both numbers even though the one is disabled?

EH,whatsapp will use whatever data connection is available,the "phone number" is only used on Signing-in for OTP,after that you can take it out and burn it and it'll work

If he activated whatsapp with the Vodacom sim, he'll still received messages regardless of which connection he uses.
