Ok, so I guess this is a very stupid question, but is there any way of running "whatsapp" application on your desktop computer? Something like a live chat?

We find more and more customers wanting to chat on whatsapp, possibly add to a function on our helpdesk.

Have posted this before on mybb; run a search and details should come up. Bluestacks is the way to go. Youwave is also an option, but I prefer Bluestacks.

EDIT: you will still need to use a phone number, and will need to activate the account with the code received on by sms/phone on that number.

So many typos and grammatical errors on that page. Suspicious.

Sure this isn't a malware-loaded version?

Good point. Who in their right mind would respond to that sort of description!

Any news on how well/badly WA works running on two devices simultaneously with the same number?

For example: Bluestacks and phone

Unfortunate - I would like to be able to send/receive messages on whichever device I'm using at the time. Oh well, will wait for them to build in support.

Why not use something like gtalk or hangouts or whatever it's called these days? Can use same account on phone and pc.
Or Skype - can also get it on phone and pc.
I'm not an apple user, but I think the chat app on that can be used on the phone and other devices (I presume only apple) too.

I do use Hangouts for this exact reason, but the fact is IM is a bandwagon, and the dominant app will always be the one that most of the people in your circles use most of the time.
Hangouts is good for people who use it, but the majority of the time people tend to WA, so it would be nice to not have to get distracted by other stuff on my phone when I'm trying to focus on my computer and a message comes in and I just want to see who it is/if it's important.

I'm definitely dramatizing the 'problem' but it would be convenient never-the-less :)

I seem to recall a story in the latter part of 2013 about SMS/MMS integration into hangouts, so that might become an option soon.

I know what you mean. Which is why I have whatsapp on my computer instead. If someone does need to reach me on my phone, they can call or text. Works quite well, I find.

It's already an option - was implemented late last year... update your Hangouts on Android through the Play Store and it'll give you the option for SMS integration - it's pretty much now the equivalent of Apple's iMessage mixed with Facetime.. with the added benefit of cross-platform integration.

Oh, I have no interest in using my phone to be in contact with people. I limit contact to phone calls and sometimes text messages, and that's more than enough.
