Hey guys. Was wondering if any of you could advise me on the following.

I have a 4mb Adsl line with mweb uncapped. All works well , besides whatsapp over wifi... Can't send voice notes... Receiving or sending pics takes forever if they even go through..

Is there any port prioritisation or something I can do to change it?

Everything else works perfects ( Netflix/downloads/browsing.... Etc) just whatsapp is slow to non-respondent
Whatsapp without wifi works fine (over 3G/4g)

Thanks

Hi johndoe1983, which model router do you make use of? Sounds like we may need to troubleshoot your WiFi. Please PM me your MWEB details so that I can investigate further and assist.

Whatsapp sending/receiving of media has become painfully slow. There is no delay in sending messages, but sending and receiving of pics etc. is extremely slow.

MWEB - sending a pic - 36 seconds
Vodacom 3G - sending same pic to different person - 3 seconds
Telkom Internet - sending same pic to a different person - 3 seconds.

As per PM, please could you escalate and resolve this.

Another issue. iMessage between iDevices sends pics at much higher quality than Whatsapp (could be full quality), so they are of much higher size e.g. Whatsapp 100kB and iMessage 2MB.

Since this issue obviously began on the MWEB side, I'm frequently unable to send pics via iMessage, they obviously just time out.

Please fix this soonest.

But I thought Mweb is a "tier 1" ISP. Why would they even begin to slow down traffic, as they are the most stable ISP in SA???? Have you tried switching between @dslmweb to @mweb realms; heard that alleviates tons of issues!

For people out of the loop:

Changing realms (IP address) can alleviate issues. I think most of us do it from time to time, and thank goodness MWEB as a higher tier (tier 1?) ISP actually has this 'tool' (multiple realms) and others available to us.

Have you spoken to Telkom and asked for a port reset?

Is your telephone line crystal clear or are there crackles, static or other noises?

Have you tested another ISP for a similar two week period, monitoring pings etc.?

The reality is that MWEB just basically works, always, and any issues not resolved from changing realms or account reauths, are almost certainly due to your line/equipment/Telkom issue.

One more:

Everything just works, always, never any downtime. Bandwidth is near unshaped and highest quality IMO. Every other ISP/backbone I've used has had intermittent issues. I know it because I use the internet a lot, and the slightest issue I pick up on, even if it's just browsing a forum.

Not sure who sells 'pure' WACS bandwidth?

Latency I'm not concerned about as I don't game anymore, but I know gamers swear by MWEB...

MWEB Guy, thanks, definitely an improvement now, a few hours later. Pics sending in half the time they used to. Seems to be stabilising. Still not perfect though, needs to come down more. ;)

Still got problems this side.

Tried to send some pics of the weekend to my friend from in hartebeesportdamn... took over 10 minutes to send one pic.

Had to send them one by one eventually (5 to 10 min wait each).

Speedtested, full line speed active locally & internationally

wondering if I shouldnt go vox fatpipe?

I used to have one of those fatpipe 1tb accounts when i bought a smart tv.... had no problems with them?

hope mweb sorts it though, not too keen to change

I'm down from 40 seconds to 20 seconds, sometimes less.

They will fix it, just give it some time. :)

Much better today, down to about 10 seconds, but we'll see as the day progresses.

I don't use Whatsapp much, but last night it was 'Connecting' every 30 seconds or so, so losing connection every 30 seconds or so. Strange.

Everything else is just perfect, as always. :)

Pics taking around 50 seconds to send on Whatsapp tonight. This on Telkom Internet. Strange...

I've sent a follow up earlier today; I'll report back here as soon as I've received feedback in this regard.
