.I do find Subaru's claim rather interesting though as they only won the 2.0-2.5 litre class in the International Engine of the Year awards in 2006. BMW in fact won 5 categories (Overall, Best Performance Engine, 2.5-3.0, 3.0-4.0, 4.0+) while VW won 3 categories (Best New Engine, 1.0-1.4, 1.8-2.0; these VW engines were also used by Audi).
Being a pedant isn't my best quality but I do believe Subaru had nothing to really boast about in this case.
