I took out my current contract in February 2009, which means that it will end in February next year. I vaguely remember many moons ago someone saying that you can upgrade two months before the end of your contract. Is this true? And if so, will I be able to migrate to a different SP or even a different network if I wanted to?
I'm on MTN, with Nashua Mobile.
TIA

if you staying on the same sp then you can upgrade early, if you planing on changing SP's then you have to wait till your contract expires, an be prepared for a bit of a hassel, nashua are full of it when it comes to porting

Correct, with vodacom sp there are two dates u must take note of...ure contract term and ure upgrade date. Ure upgrade date is 3 months before ure term date. With vsp, u may port to another sp or network with no penalties once the term date has been reached as the contrat has finished and u continue on a month to month basis.

Nashua I am not sure about, but from previous dealings, trying to port a client over to us, autopage don't merely charge u the remainder of the subs to buy out ure contract should u want to port a few months before end of contract, but they slap on a extra R2000 penalty fee ontop of the standard buy out fee. I suggest u clear up any potential costs with ure current sp before u port ure number to prevent nasty billing.

Thanks for the help guys. They seem quite expensive, so I'll just see how it goes, and maybe when my contract is finished I'll move over to MTN SP.

The misnomer "upgrade" never fails to amuse me. All the providers really want to do is to contractually lock you in for another 24 months. There is seldom an opportunity to upgrade to a newer .. / better .. / more-features .. mobile device without paying out more $$$. The providers know that we humans have a burning desire for later, greater technology, and prey on our [-]needs[/-] wants

Please bear in mind if you "upgrade/renew" earlier than your contract end date, you might lose any discount you were getting for those 2 or 3 months.
