On the first of May already I logged a fault as when I woke up at 5am, 3gb of data had already been deduced from my account, yet midnight to 8am is free data for capped accounts.

My support ticket firstly took like 5 days to get a response, sure there were a few public holidays so I will not hold that too much against them, but since then I have dealt with 4 different people who cannot seem to grasp the concept that data deduced from a capped account during free time is wrong and the keep insisting data usage is my problem and I need to install glassware to find out what I using my data as auto updates are probably the cause.

Under normal circumstances all pf this is perfectly acceptable, except when you consider that 5am is still free time and any auto updates, which I explained in the support request to begin with are disabled on all my devices, so clearly they either did not actually read it or they have grade 1 levels of comprehension. Hell one moron even tried to blame the 3gb of usage ona firmware update of my router, like really now, 3gb firmware for a router??? Is my router running windows, WTF...

Like really, is a basic understanding of computers/internet not a requirement for being a support person at an ISP? Ideally logic should also be a requirement, at least 1 of those would have stopped me from getting a slew of stupid responses.

I am actually so gatvol of having to deal with idiots, I have had easier times explaining more complex things to telkom and this level of stupidity is what one would expect from their most intelligent staff member, actually suggesting glassware would probably be like CEO level of intelligence there.

These morons that I have been dealing with have actually pushed me from wanting to upgrade my account to uncapped, to just telling them to sod off entirely. On and off I have been an afrihost client for much of this decade, not even sure I have ever had to complain about them, but for my first complaint to be handled at a level soo poor I would assume the person dealing with was fired from government for incompetence, I feel as if they hired the IT manager from SARS.

The only real question here is, if the company that is meant to be the best hires people this stupid, is there any value in leaving or would choosing someone else just push into a deeper circle of hell, is it better to move and risk finding the bigger idiot or just stick with these twats.

Afrihost has tanked and the rating internet users are giving them is telling. They would rather spend a hour explaining how 100mb is about 5GB of data than just topping up your account with 5GB. I mean really we know the internet has changed a lot and IP transit is not as expensive anymore. IPC is still pricey but still it's a few GB's

I'm assuming you are on Openserve? Just get a Cybersmart, Vox or Mweb capped adsl account and spare yourself so much headache. Mweb and Vox offers uncapped afterhours and Cybersmart offers 1TB but my testing shows they do not cap or charge for extra afterhours usage as I did 1.8TB during that time on my line and the usage reflected that but the 1TB cap is not enforced.

I would not even need 1tb, not a heavy user, even the fupd openserve uncapped would be more than enough. I have access to SADV as well and would like to move over for that odd potential heavy month as they have no FUP then.

I am just soo shocked by this, and realistically that 3gb is meaningless to me, I use about 90 or so a month, I always have cap left, but you know when know for a fact there is an issue and they insist on blaming you, one just gets annoyed.

They have no FUP on SADV.... Who told you that because the website shows the FUP applies to all networks or maybe I'm mistaken. But yeah good luck with them. The reps usually reply and then they are gone just look at the afrihost subforum.

Only openserve has an FUP, Afrihost used to apply it to everyone, but not anymore, looked like a week or 2 ago. You can't even sign up for capped on sadv.

Okay nice that is new. They finally caught up with the rest. Pity about the FUP on Openserve still though but hey at least a step in the right direction. Axxess and Afrihost has an okay network.

Single threaded to London is not bad but still getting better on Supersonic and Cybersmart.

As far as I know the FUP on openserve is because of how openserve bills for data usage, everyone else bills for access, so you pay for 100mb link regardless of how much data it uses.

Everyone I have looked into has a 300gb FUP with openserve.

You haven't looked very far. Many ISPs don't. Only the ISPs with shaping software and stuff like that enforce such FUPs.

Supersonic, cool ideas, cellc cfibre, home connect, websquad, bitco home fibre, gigago, infogro don't enforce a FUP at all on Openserve. I pay R1749 for 200Mbps completely uncapped, unshaped and unthrottled at Supersonic.

It is expensive IPC that is causeing these prices but the 300gb limit is a bit excessive. Then the 200Mbps has 400gb limit then the line speed gets halved. Not so nice.

CellC is the only 1 on that list I have even heard of, bloody hell, when did this market become soo saturated.

Yeah there is a fibre ISP born every day.

Infinity fibre, mind the speed, A360 cloud, vodacom, Active Fibre, MyIWeb, Skyfi,GoTurbo,Accelerit, Adept, Aitsa,Airtelecom, ASAP, RSAweb, CapeConnect, Easyweb, Jenny Internet, Jumbotech, leve-7, Kibo connect, Mweb, Myown, Mitsol, Comtel, nexusnet, Packetsky

And I'm tired of typing because there are sooooooo many.

The thing that changed is there is only a handful of ISPs that still do adsl and vdsl.

I am so sorry that your experience with us has been poor. This is definitely not we wish for our clients. I would really like to look into the data usage issue quickly. Can you please drop me an email with your details? My email address is [email protected]

Sjoe, at least two years ago now.... probably about the time that they stopped winning the ISP of the year.

We know that things haven't been the best. We have been trying our best to improve our support services, we have even gone as far as implementing different types of support avenues for our clients. Even if we don't win awards, that is not the race we are trying to win here.

We really shouldn't be wasting time explaining such things. We are really doing our best to try and improve the quality of our support.
