When did ATM's stop taking deposits?

I received some cash in paper form the other day and tried to deposit it at a Std Bank ATM and there isn't even a deposit option anymore WTF?

Std Bank are getting crapper by the day ( had to take a cheap shot)

With FNB you can still deposit cash at ATMs... I agree with Lancelot, perhaps it was just an autocash machine...

No, try again stix. That one wasn't an autobank I'm sure. Autobanks still have the option for you to deposit money in. There's usually only 1 or 2 out of the cluster of 4-5 ATM's there. If there's only 1 ATM chances are its a cash withdrawel only one.

I suppose that they might have stopped this service since the ATM bombings began. Since the deposit is done by a teller (person) inside the bank, this could lead to some weird liabilities for the banks should the ATM be bombed with uncleared deposits.

Is it only Standard Bank that is doing this because AFAIK this facility is still available at FNB. Also, most ATMs with deposit facilities are attached to banks, and the ATMs that got bombed were either free-standing or at garages so this does not make sense.

More money for the crooks to get away with... i used to deposit about 3 thou after a weekend (Bar Ladie money) So i guess lots of people were depositing on weekends...

The one i used were a free standing one..... not at a bank...

But i'm sure it's something to do with safety and maybe cue's of people, soft targets...

Standard Bank still do deposits, but depositors are crap and often break so often when you get to an ATM then the service is not available.

Most of the banks are currently testing cash accepting devices that can scan in the money and credit your account immediately, these will phase out the old style deposit boxes.

Standard bank is definitely still doing deposits at ATM's.

I've only recently started using it but I've found it to be very handy.
