I play WoW, and ive seen the trailers and gameplay vids for guild wars 2 and it looks very nice (much better than first GW) so might switch to that game if it looks as good as it is. any ideas on the release date?

Beta is out soon, reports say the game will be out in the first Quarter of 2012. Sadly.

There has been no announcement yet from the developers. Also no real indication when the beta will be out. The only definite thing we can count on is a "closed beta", "later" this year. Some believe the closed beta is already running, but this is just speculation. That doesn't mean a public beta or game release couldn't be out also "later" in the year. The largest fan site for gw2 is guildwars2guru.com, and if you look there, the speculation is most feel it will be released end of this year, if not first quarter 2012. Looking at what is left that Arena has to give details on (eg, 1 more profession, PVP, and water based combat to name a few), I would look to the public beta being brought out by end of the year at the latest... maybe a xmas release... we can only hope for.

How about Price? anyone know, i never played GW, but if it is free again... i might consider it ;)

Yes, thankfully the developers have stated that repeatedly. It will be free, same as GW. From what has been said and demo'd, I am pretty it will become one of the leading true MMORPG's out there.

I cannot wait. Only one more profession to nail down. Let's hope they start the beta shortly after that!

Unfortunately it is unlikely. They have a basic road map up until August/September, and have stated sometime then they will have an important announcement to make. Maybe the closed beta? Also PvP has not even been slightly addressed by Arena yet, which is a major part of the game. Oh yes, they have also not done underwater combat which they have stated was switched off in the demo's due to it not being completed. This game is going to be soooo big!

Sometimes I wonder about wize cracks like this, not sure if they are worth it or not. After all this is a venue to ask questions about gw2.
And on a side note about the "results: If you look at the top 7 results (I stopped after that), they are quite confusing as they quite misleading thanks to the incorrect 2 November date.
Also, to find out about the 2011 closed beta, you need to read quite a bit... even on the official wiki, they have a number of annoucements by Arena which turned out to be false. Much easier to just ask here I guess.
So, I agree that it is good to educate someone in the use of google, but not to make them feel like an idiot as they should have done that in the first place. :-)

Unfortunately nothing of real worth.

If speculation and jumping on each small possibility is your thing, then the only two points to note are:
1. Arena's tradeshow summer indicates that Pax Prime, their "home turf", there will be "big surprises" at this event. This is 26 August. http://www.arena.net/blog/arenanets-tradeshow-summer

2. NCSoft made an announcement recently that people must come to their booth at GamesCom and "join us for a World Exclusive Announcement and Press Briefing" on the 17 August. There has been a lot of guessing as to what this world exclusive announcement is, though as NCSoft don't only publish GW2... it could be anything. Some of the later posts show it is unlikely GW2, but people are still holding out hope :) . You can pick up the thread here: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/ncsoft-teasing-world-exclusive-for-t19083.html

As much as I'm looking forward to this and wish that it would release like tomorrow, I would rather they take their sweet time and polish that gem appropriately :)

Agreed, though it is killing me. I have played so many games in the past few months, and just felt crap as any of the MMO's I played I can't get into. The reason is that I invested so much time into GW1, and will do the same for GW2 (I assume), that anything I play now is just a waste of time. As I know I am I going to play GW2 in a few months, and so many of the MMO's pale in comparison to GW2, I feel I am wasting my time playing them. So I am really annoyed with myself currently as I just can't really get into anything.

+100. Rather we wait an extra 6 months and have a better game to play for years :D

Well, new speculation started yesterday, when Colin, one of the developers (can't remember his surname), made an apparent slip up when speaking to someone. He said in one interview they are in alpha stage, and in another that the beta is to be released in "the ne....". He stopped himself at that point. So people are saying he was going to say "new year" or "new future"... and so it goes on with the guessing :)

Vid of Colin mentioning the alpha stage this year: http://comic-con.gamespot.com/live-cam-tour/live-cam-day-2/ (just after about 10 minutes)
Vid of Colin demo'ing the engineer and his possible slip-up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKuGPQHIBaA (a few seconds after the 10 minute mark)
If you want the speculation thread, which only starts to talk about the latest issue close to the 100 page mark... http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/speculated-release-date-number-5-t16885.html

17 August is becoming quite popular now as a date to watch for a possible big announcement. PvP has been mentioned in the past as one of the last reveals by Arena Net close to beta, and with PvP being showcased at the up and coming games conferences... we could just get a release or at least a beta date announcement.

Guild Wars 2 will have a Closed Beta at the end of this year, so most likely November / December 2011. Let's say the Closed Beta runs for 2 months.

They will then have an Open Beta after the Closed Beta. Let's say that lasts two months as well. This would put us at about March / April.

I would therefore say don't expect this game before the 8th Guild Wars birthday - 28 April 2012.

I have followed this game for 2 years now and it will be amazing. When it launches I will be taking off from work for a week or two. I can't wait!!!

Yes, that seems to be the calculated guess on its launch. Must admit, after all the hype of guessing release dates during the conventions over the past few months in Europe and the USA, I have lost my zeal for keeping track.

Anyway, welcome to the forum Sou1.
