When I turn on the computer, only a white cursor appears on a blank screen

I have Lenovo S100 based on windows 7 starter, and The operating system cannot be loaded automatic unless I press F12 and select to boot from Hard Disk drive. I checked the Boot sequency and make sure that the Hard disk drive is the 1st one
So please advice how can I solve this problem

I will rather search around for a solution and the reason why it happened. But, if the OP is not the kind of person that like understanding it and simply expect it to work, then reinstall.

Are you able to open the task manager? (Ctrl + Shift + Esc)

If so, try to manually start explorer.exe (Browse to your windows folder, its at the bottom)

Edit: Eish never mind, the header of the post seems different tot the content.

Thought windows was loading only a white cursor on a black screen had that one before!

No don't reinstall. Sounds like a BIOS issue. Boot into Windows, select the Lenovo system update and update whatever is new especially the BIOS.

Check the other Boot options in the BIOS, you may have sleected the HDD as the first boot device but there are other settings you may need to check. Or if in doubt do a BIOS reset (set bios to defaults).

And like biometrics said, update, but make sure you have a fully charged battery and you are absolutely sure the bios update is the correct one. Lenovo system update should take care of it automatically.

Make sure the partition on the drive where your OS is, is the active partition.

Once had a similar problem, it was solved by restoring the MBR with the Win7 Disk.

I don't know about the BIOS issue, but for the black screen with a cursor trying restoring your registry.

Some bios has a sub menu where you have to specify the actual hard drive even if the first boot device is set to hard drive.
The bios might see a card reader or other form of storage device as a hard drive and put it infront of the your windows drive.

As for the black screen with white pointer. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del -> Start Task Manager -> Applications -> New Task -> Type "Explorer.exe" and hit enter.

If explorer starts you'll have to run some antivirus and spyware programs to make sure the comp is clean.
I recommend Eset online scan for viruses and Malwarebytes Free for spyware and malware. If you find any infections the likely source of the problem is the following registry key

Press Winkey + R -> Type "regedit.exe" and hit enter

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon\Shell

Make sure Shell Value is set to only "explorer.exe"

It can also be virus related, or a program is stopping Windows from booting up correctly.

Press Ctrl + shift + Esc and at the top of Task Manager click File > New task and type explorer.exe then click ok.

That should sort it out.

Restore backed-up files to your Windows environment or the entire contents of your hard disk to the original factory contents using OneKey Rescue system. If you still see only the cursor on the screen, have the computer serviced
