The South African rand recently hit its worst-ever level against the US dollar, but there was once a time when it was stronger than the greenback.

The early 90s saw the Rand go into freefall and just continue its slide. It killed my little business that I was running in school. I used to import Estes model rocket kits and motors and sell them at airshows and rocketry events. Anyone who was a member of SAMROC or went to the club for launch days would probably remember me at the kid selling the kits and supplies out of a Venter trailer

When it hit R3.50 to a Dollar I stopped making any profit and had to stop. I would have loved to have started earlier if I was around when the Rand was stronger than the Dollar.

Sadly ANC voters are uniquely gifted with a complete lack of common sense. I blame the Apartheid and ANC education systems. The parents got a **** education by the old gov and then the ANC ensured their kids were equally as mentally handicapped by a 30% passmark.
