When will iBurst drop prices...?

So at the end of the day what are we reduced to?
Arguing about how much 'cap' is acceptable?

When the real issue should be : We don't need caps at all.

I agree but I doubt an inefficient outfit like iBurst can afford that. It's a joint venture type company and hence it's primary focus is on maximising profit over keeping customers - the venture capital then moves on when demand drops. I don't think they'll go into cutthroat competition. Even if they do - who do they compete against - NEOTEL? Neotel has such low coverage that they're not a factor while other uncapped offerings at 1Mb/sec are over R3000 per month.

As things are iBurst has no reason to please more customers. There still isn't enough competition and knowing SA companies, they'll follow the path of least work for most profit even if more work could yield a little more profit, they'll keep milking everyone with 1-3GB accounts just because they can. I'm sure the new CEO would like to offer everyone here uncapped accounts but to do that he'd have to fire 90% of the staff probably and have no maintenance to pay for. That won't happen.

Cybersmart has introduced yet another revolutionary new concept, the Night Rider facility. By paying an extra monthly fee of only R25, you can get 5 TIMES your Cap if you Use the internet between 1:00am and 7:59am (Night Rider time). This means if you have a 3 Gig cap and you use the internet in Night Rider Time only, you will be able to download 15 Gigs, which effectively means you get 15 Gigs for the price of 3 Gigs.

Sorry, but if they can do it, so can iBurst.

remember, not everyone wants to download at 3am in the morning - not everyone wants to keep their pc's running 24/7 - it's simply there to use when the highway is open. i don't see a reason why it should be blocked, instead of utilised.

Also, iBurst will gain more customers - more modems sold, more contracts - it IS what they want you know.

And thirdly, it is that backward way of thinking like yours, that "if we give them a special after 12am, NOBODY WILL BUY BOOSTERS!! ahhhh!! noooooooo!!"
people will still buy cap for day to day use - the average person doesn't surf at 3AM in the morning.

and Peter, they are ALREADY offering uncapped accounts - we just want them to take the painfully slow 8KB/s speeds away from 12:00 - 5:00!!

Best Post!

My friend, that's exactly the time to strike - when everyone else has high prices. LOCK IN THOSE CONTRACTS ASAP!

Lowering prices when all the other ISP have low prices, have little effect.

2 Scenarios:

a) Iburst is dirt cheap - others are expensive
b) Iburst is cheap, so is everyone else

in which scenario would you pick iBurst?

iBurst offers a month-2-month account in addition to its contract. I for one would never go for the contract.

Jannie has said that the new billing system needs to be running stable before anything will happen regarding new pricing/packages.

He mentioned that they will be doing a dry run on the new system soon.

From experience I'm quite sure that the dry run will reveal a number of unintended transactions :-)

Best of luck - and may the new system dump its quirks quite fast.

Don't expect any news about super new pricing/products before September.

If it happens before then, it will be a bonus.

I'm tied to iBurst due to lack of Telkom or decent 3G coverage at home, and Neotel's failure to even compete with iBurst... And I wish for improved service. But it is more important to sort out the billing problems before sorting out the bling for money on the products.

Agreed.
Important that the car starts before you think of adding NoS & turbos etc.
But the question remains : What are my rivals doing in the meantime?
And by the time I have got those issues fixed... ?

yer well, stuff happens.

Lets just keep feeding them package ideas through this thread in the meantime. And hopefully 1 or 2 get implemented.

(would still really love to know if you can turn off automatic base station switching somehow, maybe new firmware /shrug. Thats probably a kyocera thing though)

@Gecko, I think patience is needed here, you know the story, why keep on slamming your head into a door? I've been through some interesting system changes in payrolls, with plenty of test runs into the wee hours of the morning ....give them a chance!
