I took out a month to month Telkom 3G 3 months ago with just my license and the statement 'I'd like one'

I now want to cancel and despite me in front of them with proof of residence, license, temporary passport, real passport and just about every other piece of documentation - they refuse to help unless I have a green book I'd - which I've misplaced.

We're almost on 2011 - why can't they accept a license? Even banks have accepted in the past

So easy to get one of these Telkom cards, but more of a process to close :/

I'm going to have to search :/

They should accept your original passport as proof of identity. Go back and insist on talking to the branch manager. If still an issue, ask them to contact their area manager.

Yup, I recently cancelled my Telkom account with my passport as identity document.

Your drivers licence does not have your full name - that is why its not legal for identification purposes, the ironey since its used to identify your licence.

I searched and found my ID book the following week.

All cancelled :)

Does Telkom have an official rep on here?

I cancelled on the 15 December 2010, received a reference number and STILL get charged. Telkom shop see's the request to cancel but can't do much ...

I DON'T WANT THE SERVICE ANY LONGER!

I think I almost just spat all my coffee on my screen :D
No, they DEFINITELY do not have a rep here.

If you go into telkom direct what do they have to say...?
Can't you get the bank to reverse the charges...? Maybe take with the document confirming the cancellation of the service.

It is funny. When you want to change money, they don't want your green book and insist on a passport and a utility bill!

I just took a chance as most other companies are on here ;)

Telkom store just says it's been requested ; phone with the reference # ... but they can't do anything. Why do they even have stores?

I haven't got a debit order ; but I don't want this to effect my credit rating and have them add me on ITC

Do they have a period in which you have to cancel...? (ie. did you cancel in time for this month)
Otherwise you are perfectly within your rights to reverse the debit order. I don't believe for a second that the can't do anything, I just think they choose not to. Telkom being Telkom.

I checked and I actually gave notice on the 12 December 2010 ... and after checking the system, the guy said I was able to cancel by the 31 December 2010

I don't have a debit order ; I walk in and pay - but I don't want to end up on ITC. I've tried contacting accounts 3 times and simply get disconnected ... they've locked me into this stupid month-by-month 3G system purely because I can't REACH anyone to close it.

The last I used Telkom was 2007 - and I thought things had changed since then. Unfortunatley they're exactly the same and my only chance is to find with a Telkom Direct shop now.

Well you need to get it sorted ASAP..! Don't let them get away with anything...

Right ... I've gone into the shop, I've contacted the contact centre and emailed twice ... no one can assist in closing an account! WTF?

I've downloaded my credit report and everything is 100% perfect, AAA+ rating, awesome score ... barring a stupid '30 days arrears' on a Telkom account THEY WON'T CLOSE! It's things like this that make me realize how 3rd world some aspects of this country are.

I've either forced to pay for the next few months until someone can do something - or let them fsck up my credit rating

Dolby if you signed up for a month to month contract why do you have to cancel the contract surely month to month means exactly that, you pay at or before the end of the month and the contract is reinstated for a further 30 days, if not you have reached the end of your month to month contract when the last months payment has been completed.
