Thanks to iOS and OS X updates, we've nearly used our monthly data on day 18 ;). I could purchase top-ups for R49/GB (I have plus), but I need about another 12GB. Can I do it any cheaper by either upgrading my package until the end of the month or getting a second package? Is that allowed?

What also confuses the issue is that new packages are pro-rata for the first month if you start them mid month.
 
I've got the same problem. I'm not sure if it's worth changing package at this stage of the month. But I saw, somewhere, one of the mobile operators is offering dirt cheap mobile data (once off I think) to be used between midnight and 6am. I'll try find it.
 
Ok, let me know. I did go ahead and change package and I think that has worked to some extent. I was limited by the biggest package being 20, but upgrading at least got me an extra 8GB at the lower price of around R24/GB. I'm presuming I can downgrade before the end of the month to come into effect next month.
 
It looks like you found the best Afrihost option.

I eventually found the other cheap option - if you're an early riser or if you want to schedule some stuff, you can have a look at MTN's daily Night Express, R10 per GB, and you can buy multiple GB's.....
