ok, so telkom have "accepted" ICASA's "regulations". although there will be no effect on the price of ADSL, im particularly pleased to see the uncapping of our local bandwidth. What bothers me is the fact that no-one has told us WHEN these regulations will begin to take effect, i.e. telkom taking action.

does anyone have any idea? cant wait to be able to browse/DL locally again without fear of Telkom pwning me

dude like shearch the posts on myadsl there has been probly like 20 differen't topics discussed already to the same question - no fence

rpm did say when it comes into effect, he said it today on of the threads, if it's been gazzetted in the government gazette it has taken effect, it's just going to take some time for telkom/saix to start with the new rules and regulations, give it a week or two to see a change ;) I'll look for rpm's post and post it here.

cool. first time I have seen something "come into effect immediately". usually the word "imminent" is thrown around.

Ok great!! so, all we need now are some good local torrents where you don't have to be invited. But does this mean that, we have to do some adjustments to the configuration for the modem/router to differentiate between local and international?

If this was asked before its immaterial because now it will be needed if there are any configurations to be done.

Maybe a comment from an ISP would come at the right time now. :)

If I understand this correctly local games will not go toward the cap right?

Time to start gaming :D

telkom have never seperated local from international use so browse local or not, youre still going to be capped internationally after 3 gig (AFAIK)

well that's the thing. what account must you get in order to have free local? You can get a 30GB local account for R139, would you have to get a 2GB or 3GB to qualify?? Does this goes for SAIX and IS accounts?

It goes for everyone, and there is nothing to "qualify", all accouns must have uncapped local.

Well right now I cant connect at all with any of my accounts.. so this obviously isnt it place yet

And my international pings are 400+

Non-shaping my ass <-- that came out wrong..

yeah i'm seriously getting worried about how long Telkom is gonna take to actually adhere to these regulations :(

well not all accounts, a prepaid account couldn't have uncapped local could it? you buy 1GB prepaid and then it's free local forever after that? there could well be a price war as I guess the least you could get is 1GB monthly from X-Dsl for R72. And if this is all you need to get uncapped local, everyone will be signing up for the cheapest provider of the smallest account. I think there could well be a problem here...they will be some small print on which accounts would "qualify" for the unlimited local access.

nah man. it always used to be uncapped local. all these "special" accounts will probably fall away. also, there are lots of people who would still like international access

well this seems fun!!!!! gogogo vpns again, for uncapped int aswell !!! where is clipse now ? :D
