When it comes to the switch of seasons, do you identify meteorologically or astronomically?

For the former, 1 September is Spring Day. For the latter, we go with the (Southern) vernal equinox.

Ah, so a revolutionary. Facts, History and Tradition apparently count little for those choosing 1 September. Like Galileo's, my telescope shows otherwise. :p

1 March. I self-identify myself as an Irishman. Especially on weekends

Neither.

The midpoint between the Midwinter Solstice and the Equinox falls in the first week of August.

If a season is 13 weeks or so, and the midwinter point is around June 21st, approximately 6.5 weeks later it is the end of Winter and the start of Spring.

/me reads copy of The Communist Manifesto with gusto

Ecologists often use a six-season model for temperate climate regions: prevernal, vernal, estival, serotinal, autumnal, and hibernal.

Learned something new...

September 1st because that's what we were taught in school and teachers can't be wrong :)

Personally I view and experience the seasons like this:

Spring - Sept and Oct
Summer - Nov to Feb
Autumn - March and Apr
Winter - May to Aug

Winter ends when I stop wearing a jacket. Summer, when I stop wearing shorts.

For me it would be :

Spring - Sep to Nov
Summer - Dec to Feb
Autumn - Mar to May
Winter - June to Aug

Then the whole cycle begins again ......

25 minimum? It's been 25 in the afternoon a lot of times in August.

Yes minimum...

Ok you got me, my pulled out of my arse method isn't entirely accurate.

:)

EDIT: it was over 25 twice in Aug btw, so I'm sticking to my method! It'll be taught in schools one day I tell you!!!!
