When's your preferred Spring Day?

When it comes to the switch of seasons, do you identify meteorologically or astronomically?

For the former, 1 September is Spring Day. For the latter, we go with the (Southern) vernal equinox.

The equinox fails to take into account kinetic radiation. Try this: light a candle and regard 0cm as summer solstice, 10cm as spring/autumn equinox and 20 cm as winter solstice. Hold your hand at 20 cm - feels fine doesn't it? Now, move it closer -so to 15 cm. The hand warms up a bit, doesn't it? So, as we approach the half-way mark it starts warming up. So the equinox really isn't the start - it is merely the beginning of positive territory for the candle's journey to my palm.
