Where are APN details saved?

I can't delete or edit my APN details, once I click save it just kicks me back to the previous menu. I've google and tried all solutions except for resetting the phone to factory defaults which seems to work for everyone but I don't want to do that for several reasons.

I thought about manually editing whichever xml or db file the info is saved in but I have to find the file first. The phone is rooted so I can search /.
Anybody know of a search app to search for text strings in files?

Tried that but if I grep / the phone restarts itself after some time.

I'll grep /data overnight as I suspect it's in there and see what gives.

This grep is still running 14+ hrs later or it's stuck...
