So, where are the ISP's with their fantastic SEACOM offerings??

Each one is waiting to see what the other is going to do first.

I doubt SEACOM will make such a dramatic ripple in the market. SEACOM were demanding rediculous contractual agreements of 20 years, and with EASSY coming next year, who'd shoot themselves in the foot with a 20 year contract.

Pricewars might have started - but don't be fooled by cheap offerings. Make sure you know who the upstream provider is you're using, before jumping at a R5 saving per month.

Everyone is scrambling for market-share now, so rather don't be a sheep and move around the same yard looking for tastier grass as you won't find it right now.

The true competition lands next year, when we'll have SAT3, SEACOM and EASSY competing for OUR bandwidth, not the consumer competing for a cheaper rate!

True, although i still think some ISP's will lower their prices somewhat. The question is who and by how much

G-Connect lowered their ADSL by 25% already, just two days ago. How can you forget about that one? It's huge! Tried them out last night, great service.

I am staring at IS and tapping my foot impolitely.
I am staring at TelkomII and tapping my foot impolitely.

I look at Neotel and all I see is a murky fuzzyness.

I can only wonder what Telkom are thinking, and all our baby ISP's are 100% dependant on Telkom.

What service did you subscribe to?
Does the ADSL price of 4.9c per meg equate to R50 per GB? (1024 x 4.9c)

Yes there will be price reductions to gain marketshare for the fore-coming EASSY cable, however, at what true cost. Be careful about G-connect (not to run them down), but they're a second level tier. In this regard, your internet goes through them, and then they send it out how they please. They give you a private ip address which effectively causes double-NAT on your connection, as your router is already natting the connection. This will cause problems with Gaming, Voip, VOD and many other services that use high-speed stateless protocols.

G-connect in my opinion is a FANTASTIC travelling tool, specially with 2010 around the corner, I forsee mounds of international users making use of G-connect simply because of their 1-account model.

Truth remains is how much are they're contending your service going through their internet connection, and how much is their UPSTREAM provider (telkom in this case) contending the overall connection.

Think about that before saying 4.5c per MB is better than anyone else. If you're hangling for price, don't expect a world-class service. their is a reason why for example MTN has atronomical pricing, yet still stays ahead of the game as a corporate-based ISP.

Anyway, just my 2c

Tried DSL. You really only pay per MB used, in Happy Hour I payed R0.045 per MB, downloaded about 234 MB - R10.53 deducted. Cool graphs showing your usage.

But I have automatic access to 3G and Wi-Fi as well, don't need to activate anything.

They have Vodacom fibre backhaul, not Telkom.
